On Juries: I was on one, once. It was a 6 person jury on an eviction. The respondent showed up in a neck brace. He was 2 months delinquent on rent. He was making his landlord take his sorry ass to court and through a jury trial to evict him. He found a sucker in the jury who thought he should be allowed to just pay the two months past due and start fresh. We ultimately evicted his sorry ass, but....
A district judge I know told the story of a jury foreman who didn't know what the word "unanimous" meant. This would have been maybe less scary if the jury foreman wasn't working as a public school teacher.
