Armadillocon 32 - Austin, TX :)

I'm going to this:

http://www.armadillocon.org/index.shtml

Anyone else around here planning on going? I have reserved a hotel but dang it is expensive, so if anyone wants to share, it'd be 125 buckaroos.

I am doing the writer's workshop with my revived fantasy, which I think will be alot of fun and hopefully I will get some good feedback, and have a chance to discuss what, if any, future it may have. I've done one of these before and got LOUSY feedback (this was with Tor editors and the editor I got was so not helpful, dammit) but that was years ago, a lifetime ago for me, and I have a firmer grip on what I want out of my writing life.

This is within driving distance, and the list of attendees looks good, and I see a few familiar names on there from the mystery world. So I will be optimistic.

So! I will obviously drive, so will have wheels, and can fetch from the airport even. I am all ready for an adventure! Join me!

C, do you want me to signalboost to the Cafe, or would you rather it be someone you're reasonably acquainted with? :)

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I am just crazy enough to not mind if you do indeed. I trust that your Cafe members are not...crazy?

Oh wait, I like crazy!

Sure!

YOU SHOULD COME SAM! (lol)

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, I've used up my conference budget for the year, alas, and given I don't know a single name or book title of the guests, I am probably not the target market :D I will signal boost though.

Grin. No worries, you know I was just teasing. :)

Thanks for your help! I am so crazy... But that hotel is expensive. Bah.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Fingers crossed for you!

Someday, I hope to have a reason to be able to blame you at least in part. You and all your amazing, informative flisters!

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.

I lurk, I learn.

[identity profile] dremiel.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't offer to share, or even a bed as we've non spare, but I'd love to buy you a drink when you're sown here.

Good luck.

We should totally be friends, Bee Person! I see you everywhere, but did not know you were local-ish. I live in Fort Worth. Sigh. Boring city. :)

That would in other words be sweet!

[identity profile] dremiel.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely! And Fort Worth is more fun than, say, Dallas!

Heh, I've used the bees for so long that I forget that's what most people associate with me.

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you are bees!!! The question is, do you have pet bees?

[identity profile] dremiel.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
My Dad kept hives for about thirty years and I used to help with them a little. He passed his hives on in the 70's when we relocated to Alberta for several years. I'm very glad he got out of keeping before he saw Africanized Honey Bees in Texas.

One of my brothers had hives for about ten years. The images are of his bees in Houston. He gave his hives to a commercial keeper when he moved to Clear Lake two years ago but probably would have done so even without the move. Honestly it's become difficult to be a hobbyist with AHBs so prevalent in Texas. The commercial apiculture guys (still usually small operations but at least ostensibly for profit) can handle ultra defensive bees much better. I've never actually wanted to be responsible for hives but liked being tangentially involved and I do miss it. Well, I don't miss hauling them around, or working the extractor...it's like missing winter from my years in Edmonton without missing shoveling snow!

Uhhhhh....

Unless you really really really want to stay at the hotel (e.g. you want to drink and party until 4am) you can stay at my place for free. My roommate and I talked about that before coming in, she's cool with it so long as there's advance notice, and it's comfy with air conditioning, a soft mattress topper, comfy chair, Captain Jack action figure, and excessively friendly cat who will be absurdly cute and keep you company.

If I'm not offshore, you could share the bed with me, or I'll get on the air mattress...heck, I'd go to the con with you! If I'm offshore, you get the whole thing, plus access to my bicycle and other bits and pieces I wouldn't be using as desired. :)

And should the sun and the moon line up just fine, the bed is big enough for two guests and me on the air mattress. I'm jes' sayin.

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I really really want to stay in the hotel. Especially at a con full of peoples--I will want to just elevator-up and escape! But there isn't a cat... *eeks!* LOL.

If you aren't offshore you darn well better plan on meeting sometime. :) I will come up early Friday, and go back late SUnday, since it is such an easy drive.

[identity profile] duikermeisie.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not kidding about the friendly cat. And he looooooves my bedroom. When I go away and come back, he whines and cries and loves all over me, and promptly races into my room to wallow all over my bed.

You should come meet them anyway. :)

I don't know if I'll be in Texas...might be offshore, and am also trying to plan a trip to Canada to see a dear friend who I haven't seen in a decade. So, we'll see. But if I'm in town, heck yeah I'm there!

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee! My friend Anthony looks like he might be able to join me and share my room. I am sure I won't kill him--pretty positive. He may snore, not sure. LOL.

Ooo Canada! That would be a sweet treat!

That cat loves your room because when you are gone, he gets to claim it as his!

[identity profile] duikermeisie.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The door is firmly shut when I am gone. I will usually leave it open when I go, as it is cat-occupied, and roomie closes it at bedtime.

I really don't know why they both love sitting on my bed so much. Roomie has a perfectly good bed with perfectly good cat-on-bed-height windows, too.

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
They think you smell lovely!!!! :)

[identity profile] duikermeisie.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's more gratitude that I'll slip them bits of steak on the fly when my vegetarian roomie isn't home.

Don't tell her I said that.
