Oh, Googlemaps Meme!
I live in the most boring place in the world.

What are we supposed to do? Say something about where we are:
Land-locked. Flat(ish). No trees (okay we do have trees, just not ENOUGH! And not BIG ones!), coast too far away and it is ugly anyway, no mountains, no valley, but river and a big skies (I do love the skies), place-where-I-was-born-and-still-am, not where my heart is.
In other words, where I have lived all my life, yet am living temporarily, until Things Happen and then I can escape.

Which is where I am quite happy to live. For now. ;-)

Where I live is flat. Flat like a slice of machine-cut bread. *sigh* I grew up in tall rolling hills covered in forest, and sometimes this flat concrete (EVERYTHING, including major national monuments, is made from concrete) slice of bread gets me down. Also, at this time of year, I miss the glory of changing leaves. Something about the weather here and the type of trees we have means that leaves rot and fall down, but don't becoming blazing kindergarten colored icons of glory.
Someday I'm going to move to the mountains, I think. I tell my students that I want to live at the TOP of a mountain, with a village of people to visit at the bottom when I feel social. ;-)
Oh, but St Pete - so it's about 200 years old, and it's the main cultural center of Russia, which means the most spectacular ballet in the galaxy. And lots of old palaces and houses of princes - most of which are now parceled up into offices. So you'll have, say, accountants with inlaid marble floors and gorgeous wood paneling on one side and sheet rock on the other. Heh. But the old part of the city is very nice to walk around in, all criss-crossed with canals and rivers. There are 4 major islands downtown, and if you stand at the end of the furthest one you look out over the Finnish Gulf. It's quite lovely, really.
And then the rest is grit. ;-)
