Okay I could not resist doing this too, so here is that list of words and questions everyone's been reading. One thing I know I tend to do that once was semi-on purpose but is now habit, and I do blame Nick, is to pronounce crisp t's rather than be lazy-tongued in pronunciation of words like data, theater, where often one hears Texans pronouncing it more like 'datda' or 'theatder' -- kinda a slide between t and d. Sorta. LOL. I also tend to say 'on' kinda weird...got that from my mom. I should've added that.

And FWIW, both my son and niece have always said aunt the other way. Like Northerners. I do not know why. LOL.

Also, how else does one pronounce syrup? What other options are there??? And remote!

Say These Words: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting Image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house? "Dammit, my daughter was caught tp'ing the neighbor's house. Again."
What is the bug that when you touch it, curls into a ball? "Don't you dare squash that doodlebug! It is bad luck!"
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called? "Man, all I want now is a soda and all I've got is this beer."
What do you call gym shoes? "Has anyone seen my other tennis shoes? Wait. MADDOX! STOP CHEWING MY TENNIS SHOE!"
What do you say to address a group of people? "Hey y'all, want to meet at Riscky's for a Shiner?"
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs? "Do NOT pull the legs of daddy longlegs. That could be your grandfather!"
What do you call your grandparents? "Papa Cox and Papa Scott were both awesome, and I miss them both like crazy. My Grandmother Cox and I butted heads, but I adored my mom's mom. Wish I'd known them all longer!"
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket? "Our Albertson's has really nice new shopping carts!"
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining? "Wow, pretty!"
What is the thing you change the TV channel with? "Who took the batteries out of the remote?!"

This was way more detailed than the one I had! Wow. Lotas things. And I love your voice, you sound so nice and amiable. Which you are, I just find it awesome that the level of warmth comes across in your voice.

That was fun! It was lovely to hear what you sound like. I'm actually tempted to do this too, but no time tonight. Perhaps tomorrow if I remember.

Re accents, I was rather disconcerted when it finally dawned on me during my last trip to America that people genuinely found it hard to understand my accent. (Probably not helped by the fact that I tend to talk quietly.) I've always thought of myself as someone who speaks clearly and is easy to understand, but I forgot that we UKians are so used to American accents of all kinds via TV and the movies that hearing Americans seems natural, but it doesn't apply in the other direction so much.

Without doubt, my ears are far more tuned to different accents nowadays. Nick and I talk about accents alot--lately of course we were getting into the accents predominant in Devon. LOL. He found a fascinating website that explored all the different accents in the UK--that was fun to explore.

The original pilot for Being Human, the actress who played Annie originally? She really forced me to tune my ears. At first I couldn't understand her! LOL. But now it is good. I hope you decide to do it! I'd love to hear your voice. FWIW, never had a problem anywhere we went over there, though in London, I was surprised I heard more non-British accents than anything!

Do you think living in Russia has influenced how you speak now?

Haha okay. I'll use it as my inspiration to actually get my work done. (Currently on a 15 min break. I asked a friend to tell me which thing to do and give me time limits so that I actually do them, haha.)

In our house it wasn't a remote, it was always "the flicker" because you used it to flick through the channels I guess? I didn't realize that wasn't normal until years after I'd moved out and someone very irritatingly insisted that wasn't the right word.

YOUR ACCENT IS SO CUTE. JUST SAYING. Also, you know, I often have to put REAL EFFORT into making the world 'oil' have two syllables. If I'm not paying attention it sometimes just comes out ul.

Oh a flicker? LOL!!! I am pretty sure it was always 'remote' in our house, since time began. :) You should've kept 'flicker' as it is charming! Oh well.
