My laptop died! HP Pavilion v6000 and it just stopped working today. Shut off, went dead, won't reboot. Thank the stars for Harris Amelia, my baby laptop, and having everything either on the external hd, dropbox (which is the best thing ever--why aren't you using it? See, it saved me!) or in emails. And all my pictures are safe too. Whew! But man! Talk about lousy timing--this doth suck.
I will likely have to replace it, according to what I Googled. The problem seems to happen often with this laptop, which sucks. I did get a full 2 years out of it. Think they do that on purpose? I think so.
I won't replace it with a big laptop though, not this time. Back to desktop, as Harris Amelia is a real trooper, and I am quite happy to tote It around with me when I need a laptop. I am just disappointed that this happened now. Evil!
My daughter's new computer is a gorgeous, ridiculously-awesome iMac monster, but I am not going to convert to an iMac...can't afford that, anyway. Ha, can't afford a replacement at all right now! Oh well.
Job hunt chugs along at a slow pace. I've been sending out a few resumes a day, and tomorrow will go get some resumes printed so I can mail those out to different companies. It seems almost futile, sending out resumes like this. But eventually, something has to click, right? Thankfully I am not in dire straits financially...but that isn't that far around the corner, either.
My writer's group is going to meet tomorrow night, and it has been too long since I've bonded, so am looking forward to that, forward to getting out of this house. At least it is beautiful weather here! The huskies have been outside all day long, enjoying it. I don't blame them.
Okay got some beta'ing to do, so best get to it. I just can't believe that stupid laptop of mine. How dare it go kaput now! Argh.
I am not amused!

Date: 2011-01-24 10:31 pm (UTC)I got 3 years out of my extremely expensive Macbook Pro, so I think it's pretty standard. Sad, though :(

Date: 2011-01-24 11:23 pm (UTC)I had a serious panic with mine because I'd transferred all my photos onto my new external hard drive the night before then loaded it up onto my desktop computer, which told me that there was nothing there. Thought that, if they didn't manage to rescue my laptop, I would have lost all my photos from my trip :( But it worked second try, and they're now safely backed up on Windows Live as well.

Date: 2011-01-25 01:20 am (UTC)The job hunt SUCKS. 9.5 years of railroad research analyst does not translate to anything though the person I am working with at the temp agency believes my skills are very translatable. I still had to take all the tests, which I finished yesterday (got to do them at home).
Starting a new book now. That should help.

Date: 2011-01-25 01:36 am (UTC)That is not long enough! Tiff's little Macbook is five years and still going strong. She's gifting it to her friend Casey. I'll likely get another refurb off of Ebay. I don't do gaming or anything, so I just need a good solid computer to do the normal everyday stuff.

Date: 2011-01-25 08:56 am (UTC)And I shall join the legions of 'try a Mac' - the average Mac laptop appears to be around five years of age (this is why people buy fewer of them) which makes them a better investment.

Date: 2011-01-25 12:10 pm (UTC)Admittedly I don't use a laptop much. It's either the desktop for serious work or the Asus Eee notebook for use while travelling, but I do like being able to write in other parts of the house and the Eee keyboard isn't big enough for fast typing.
