I have a new laptop, hey hey hey

Am now the happy and proud owner of a new HP Envydv4, a lovely white computer with black around the monitor, 14", Windows 8 which is fine with me - I've had no problems taming it, getting off the bloatware, etc. It has a bit of quiet hum from the fan, but I am fine with that - my old laptop was incredibly noisy and so HOT - this has Coolsense which is keeping the keys so nice and cool! No more hot hands! YAY!

Christmas this year has been fabulous. My daughter is home for the holidays and my sister and her daughter are here - they return home tomorrow. The kids and I had a nice Christmas morning just the three of us then though I ended up driving through our snow/ice stormette to fetch my sister and her daughter from Love Field, it was a great day even if it was a treacherous drive to my other sister's.

Both my kids loved what I got them (Kindle and a killer professional-model blow dryer for the daughter, and a USB microphone and straight-razor and full kit for the son). They got me Bose head phones that I can't wait to try out on this computer as soon as I get music on it.

Am still working on edits, meep. And here I told my editor oh I will have them in early! So much for that. Family stuff, work, more family stuff - been incredibly busy. It's been fun but I am kinda ready to get back into the routine of things.

Am working on my writing goals for 2013. More on those later.

And, I am so happy that a friend told me today that she'll be coming to visit the area in March! WHEE! Must clean all the things...

Sitting here on my bed with my new laptop and its pretty pretty clean and crispy white monitor, and looking up over at my big monitor I realize how yellow it is (the big monitor) in comparison.

I love this little laptop. Perfect choice and hopefully we'll be friends for a long time to come.

C

Oh, that sounds like an awesome Christmas - so happy for you! *beams*

May you have a long and happy relationship with your lovelylittlelaptop!

I want a new laptop, too. Since my other new laptop has gone over to the use of my intern/student, and the old one doesn't give another peep.

Working on your writing goals for 2013? I planned to do the same in the next few days. Today though is about looking back at 2012.

I now have Word 2007 on my laptop thanks to a friend with a spare key - I am so happy! Did not want Word 2010. This thing is perfect. I wasn't sure about going down a notch in size, but I love it. Just right for curling up in bed with (like now).

Now to get my music on!

Yeah - after such a dramatic 2012, I want 2013 to be simple and lovely. I was so excited yesterday to discover a new place to write away from home, too, a new coffee/wine/microbrewery place not too far from here that is so warm and cozy and happy and oh! Exciting! Am hopeful for 2013.

I like Windows 8 just fine - the new Start tiles are a wee bit silly, but then again, I like them too. Sure beats Vista which is what I have been using all these years on my laptop. :)

A look back at 2012! I should do that.

I kinda like windows 8. Once I figured out the shit ton of weird ass shortcuts and how to close an App I've been enjoying it quite a bit. I don't even miss the start button.

GWYN! There is an app i can't figure out how to close - the STore app! it will not go away!!

Yeah I like it lots. :)

OMG I'M HERE LET ME HELP YOU. Go to the top of the screen with your mouse until the hand shows up. CLICK THEN DRAG that little jerk to the very bottom of your screen and let go. It sorta doesn't look like it's going to move at first, but be brave, ride it out and drag it down. That closes apps. Took me freaking FOREVER to figure that one out.

oh oh THANK YOU!!!! OMG!!! I will go try that!

Good luck. Also Windows Button + C opens up the charms button and so useful. If you wanna search the store you can just use the eye glass. It searches inside of aps. It's neat.

the Charms thing I wish there was a way to make it where it only opens when you do it yourself. Do you know how turn off that? I keep going over there on accident.

I think you have to screw with registry to get it to turn off. It used to drive me nuts. I think I got used to at and I avoid the top right corner and I'm safe from it.

This is kinda handy http://www.pcworld.com/article/2012885/20-must-know-windows-8-tips-and-tricks.html

Oh sweet thank you!

OH hey I just accidentally went up to top left corner and there the app was and it let me close it there?

Do you like the thing that pops up on the right and then shows you date and time? i would like that to go away....

How do you like the laptop? I've never even considered getting an hp lappy, but looking at the new Dells, I'm honestly NOT impressed. And I really, really need a new laptop. And I don't want to spend a fortune... the hps look enticing in that regard.

I love love love this little thing SO MUCH! It is smaller than my old one (an HP that has lasted 5 years... NOT still going strong, but is still going). I love HP products. My big computer is an HP too.

This one suits me to a T :) Windows 8 is okay too - no real problems at all. This is pretty lightweight too, easy to tote around AND stays nice and cool. I am a fan. :)

I was going to ask about windows 8 too. I have heard so many negative things about it that I worried about sticking with a PC. I am a PC person too and my computer is starting to worry me as it seems to be overheating. Is it simple to use?

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2012-12-31 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! It hasn't driven me batty at all - getting different programs on here have, but not the computer itself. I love love LOVE it. This is Windows 8 but not touch-screen - those computers are out of my grasp and needs.

I think the tiles for the start menu are pretty silly - trying to get the Apps thing on a computer - but, why not? I just use the desktop as always and have it set up just like I like it. I wouldn't hesitate to get Windows 8.

You better be feeling better.... /eyes you/

Apparently thought I was signed in and tried to comment....I must be more tire than I thought!

Don't know if you will see both this post an my last, but yes I am feeling better. Very tired and I am about to make a nice long post about it.

As for the windows 8 the tiles just look so confusing on the commercials. Funny story with the touch screen is that when I worked at UPS the computers at work were a touch screen and I got my first touch screen phone. I would come home and be working on my computer and find myself touching the screen to try to get things to open. Had a few duh moments. But I am like you, don't really need or want a touch screen computer at home.
