To ask for volunteers to read my sci fi as I go through its last pass, or not to ask for volunteers to read through my sci fi as I go through its last pass.

If I asked for volunteers, would anyone even volunteer?

I am hugely chicken re: sharing my work, especially something so different than what I used to write.

Will debate this with myself further, but am curious if anyone would, um, you know, volunteer?

Hmmm.

I have thought about using one of those critique places out there (like Absolutewrite, but I haven't enough posts because I prefer to lurk, you know), but I don't want just ANYone to have a crack at smacking my words about, you know?

Goal is to have it turned into This Unnamed Publisher I am Targeting by November 1 though I am crap at keeping deadlines. But that is the one I have (before Nano which I will do this year because my Fort Worth Area peeps are awesome and we are already chattering about it).

Hmmm.

Well time to go back to work so I will ponder this further.

And look, another post from me! That is two last week and one this week, so far! What is this madness?

I would never advise getting critiques from strangers, but you know what my experiences have been.

Having alpha readers for my last was wonderful. I guess you need to figure out what you want from your volunteers. Cheerleading? Criticism? And then you should hand select people and make it clear what you need from them, then over the first few times you send them something, you can tell them yes more criticism or no, less of that.

I'm not usually a sci fi fan, so I don't know if I'd enjoy the novel. It's rare one comes along that interests me enough to pick it up. Maybe this is a good thing because then it would keep me objective to the writing? If I get into the novel, that's the highest form of praise you could get from me because I don't read anything I don't like. Anyway, my point is if you need an objective volunteer, I wouldn't turn down the offer. :)

I like science fiction, it's in fact my favourite genre. So if you decided that you need someone to give you feedback (who isn't the fastest reader in the world) or just bounce around ideas about the science you've created ... just let me know. Even if it's later in the process.

Probably too late, but I would do it. My only qualification is having read a ton of sci fi though.
