I've spent most of today messing around with this computer--something bizarre happened to it last night, and I suddenly had no task bar! And things were opening crazy and closing even crazier. It was all very odd and sudden. I finally got it to reboot and hit F12, restoring it to last working configuration. Victory! Then, the internet totally went wonky on us--we ended up reinstalling the Belkin software, and now, finally, we're fixed. Unreal.

I wonder if I should do another poll titled "So, after the last poll, how many of you have had pizza?"

My son and I have--pepperoni with cheddar and mozzarella. Mmmm very delicious.

The reason for the poll in the first place? I was on the phone yesterday with Nick, who is truly enjoying having his flat and a kitchen to himself. Yesterday he made pizza and proceeded to tell me about all the salami and cucumbers he was putting on it.

CUCUMBERS? Whoa, now wait a minute--CUCUMBERS? On a PIZZA?

He thought I was strange for my reaction and I thought he was strange for doing it in the first place! So, I thought I'd stick a poll up and see if anyone else out there put cucumbers on their pizza.

Turns out it is not a German thing as the other Germans on my flist didn't check cucumbers...only Nick did. So, I think it is just a Nick thing.

When he comes to see me in late Feb. and all of March, we're just gonna have to have pizza with cucumbers so I can give it a whirl. No rush for me to try it before then--I have my doubts how it might taste. Hmmm.

So, now that my computer works again I can get back to that writing thing. Nick's already gone to bed, does not feel well and so sleep called early tonight. Sigh. But it is probably good since I messed around all day and am very behind in my word count as a result. YIKES!

Later--

I have just downloaded the third GRRM book, A STORM OF SWORDS, onto my ipod. I am very fond of listening to his books while I'm at work. With 22 parts, I'll be listening to this for weeks. Nick is currently reading A GAME OF THRONES, and is, here and there, reading chapters to me. We do that as often as we can--he likes reading out loud, and I love curling up in my bed, under a blanket, one dog or another (either Claire--the usual, or Shelby, who is now She Who Rules--poor Claire) against my back. I close my eyes and am transported away. Nick is quite good at all the voices, too. Except his Crow sounds a little sissy. "Corn! Corn!"

In any case, I am just happy tonight that my computer is working. Just talked to the kid and she is sending me a paper to review--she writes lots of papers in her honors class, What is Science--and has been acing the papers. I really don't change THAT much...but I do finally have it through her head that so many of her thoughts were what I call Teenagerisms. Just a teenagey way of phrasing things...that is disappearing, and her papers are getting more professional. I love it.

Also--thus far, my writing efforts toward my nanowrimo thing have been pretty poor. But, that's okay--not trying to 'win' it -- that is not my goal. Focusing on my original fiction and making it a part of every day is my goal. Frankly, after three years (or more) away from serious writing, it has been hard to make it a top priority again. It's like exercising--once out of the habit, one really has to work at it to make it a habit once again.

Still reading (in book form--not listening to it) Philippa Gregory's Earthly Joys. Not a favorite one of her books--she writes in third person in this one, and just goes willy nilly into other POV's whenever it suits her. *grates teeth* I do understand why--it is mostly John's wife's thoughts the reader is suddenly plunged into, and while her thoughts are important as they are all about John and her view of him (John is, quite frankly, quite smitten by and then becomes the lover of the Duke of Buckingham...), she herself does not warrant a full chapter of devotion. She is just not that important. So, we dive into her POV. I much prefer Gregory's first person tales. The Queen's Fool was brilliantly entertaining and satisfying. After Earthly Joys is finished, not sure what I will pick up next.

Now to get to the real, important reason for this post. The below quiz! I found it via a little hunt-through of [livejournal.com profile] sartorias's friends list, when I accidentally went to it. A person with a wolf-dog icon caught my eye...and after reading her tale of her sick and hurt dog, I scrolled down and realized that there was this little meme. So of course I had to do it.

And with that, I must leave you. Got a load of laundry to fold--the last load is washing now. Yay! Kelly and I have a lot of clothes that were dirty as Sundays are wash days and the daughter was forever bringing her laundry home to wash, thus stealing MY wash time--

FIVE MORE DAYS OF DRIVER'S ED! AHHHH!!!!!!

Carolyn, aka Brand, who happens to be one of my favorite characters (Daenerys is my favorite). Can't say why as that would be a spoiler for Nick who has a long ways to go to catch up to the point where I am now :). But I grin at my results.
