So I haven't made a post since the fifth? Really? Have two weeks REALLY passed since Nick's arrival? That is so weird. We've settled into a routine now--early to bed, early to rise, crazy work inbetween in which we no longer get to talk on the phone. Thank heavens for emailies, but maaannn...I miss Nick MORE now that he is here (at least, you know, between 8 and about 4:30 or so). Strange.
The quick lo-down:
Home--smile. All is well there, albeit interesting...my daughter of course is back home, going to TCU this year. She is gone alot though. She can't sit still, I don't think--she has to Be With Friends and Make New Ones...it is like a requirement or something. Nick's been quite fascinated with this, I think. Frankly so am I. My daughter's need to be surrounded by her peoples is a strange thing, but not unlike how her dad was. He never wanted to stay home and just chill. Obviously, my son has MY genes. I like to go and do things, but maaannn...my daughter simply cannot stay put. Too much time to waste! And of course doing costs $$$. School starts Monday though, so she will be forced to settle in.
Mice--we have mice. Not the bad kind, no...these were purposely put into our pad. LOL. There are four of them--the Master, the Doctor, Q and Andy. Q of course from HP, the others from Doctor Who. Nick's got pics on his blog if anyone wants to see. They are in the bedroom, and I am still not sure about this. I keep thinking they are smothering me in the middle of the night but surprisingly they are actually not smelly. But it's taken some convincing--I keep waking up just KNOWING the bedroom smells nasty. LOL. It is weird. I am weird.
Dogs--Shelby loves Nick. Maddox took FOREVER to calm down about Nick's return. Days! He still is a bit nuts! We walked them for a long time the other night--things are finally cooling down around here, thank heavens, so that was really nice. Supposed to storm over the next few days--a real pain, as then we have to keep them inside. They are super-intrigued by the mice, needless to say--they are darting snacks to huskies.
Work--swamped as always. Things that are due, but do to crazy workload, impossible to get to just yet because more GOTTA HAVE IT NOW stuff piles on. So here I sit writing a post.
Adventures--we got thwarted on our trip to California. No refunds on the tickets. That sucks, but we'll just have to deal. Sigh. Other plans are...to see SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE when they are here (the winner graduated with my daughter, so...this will be VERY wild), see ballet, see TOMMY, uh uh I forget what else...I'm sure there is more. We will see Anthony
talekyn and um...other things we have planned, are on our calendar. Am sure Nick's added the ballet, or will when we get the tickets.
Writing--we're both busy having fun with Seaside (on ij) and loving it. Changes made have suited us, I offed my regular characters and got a new one, and that is ONE. Just one. All I can truly handle. Serious writing--I have my outline! I have my STORY! I have my CHARACTER! I have my SETTING! I have my PASSION!!!!! And of course am exhausted by 10 every night, so now I just have to do things like oh STOP writing in lj (lol) and begin the story. It has taken forever to pull it all together, and the story, lol, has evolved into something I had no idea it would. Didn't, really, until Sunday morning when I sat my buns on the couch and in the quiet of the morning (i.e., Nick was asleep), hammered out everything.
Podcasts--I am absolutely hooked on the I SHOULD BE WRITING podcast by Mur Lafferty. Just...because. I love it. Her voice is a very pleasing one for a girl (lol) and her topics are always just spot-on. She has interviews with interesting people, and has very sensible advice. I'm to the part now where she sold her first book, so that is spiffy. Today's podcast is an interview with Neil Gaiman. I am seriously, I guess, gonna have to retry the books. I really like the person of NG, and the way he sees things, but lost it...of course, LOL, now I remember, Nick and I apparently started with the wrong book and did not know it! So maybe that should be on our list of reads.
Reading--speaking of reading, our current read is by a.m. homes, THIS BOOK COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE. The story is just brilliant (in its simplicity), the dialogue sparkly, the characters--each one, no matter how briefly upon the page, is well rounded and interesting and frankly all are slightly quirky. Nick's reading it to me--we do this when we are driving around places. It's fun being read to--I love it, as Nick has a great reading voice and does all the characters with a cute urgency (okay, maybe that is just my opinion?) that is fun. Lots of great tricky words too so it is a learning experience as well.
What else. Chase student loans suck--first they said they got the paperwork, then they said they didn't, then they found it, then they said the proof of enrollment I provided (which was on the list--the acceptance letter) was not enough, so I had to go today and fax her schedule. Unreal. Which of course we just got a week ago. ARGH! And so now we're going on week three waiting on the loan--she's in fine shape, except we kinda need that to pay for her books. ARGH!!!! Deep sigh. THey are going to expedite it, they swear...so...yeah.
What else II. Son is registered for school and swears he will have THE BEST YEAR EVER. He is not driving yet, not even done with driver's ed. I have not worried about it. No big interest, and so, to me, he was not ready. He'll start up again in September. It will now be spring, before he can have a car. Thank heavens. I am not ready for that yet.
That's it for now--lunch hour is up. I had to take it today (been working through) due to fax machine situation--we no longer have one here at work. Nuts.
