My daughter asked me this morning if writing a sequel was harder or easier than writing something new. Not sure how she knew I was in the throes of puzzling out problems regarding that just then, but in fact, I was. Am. I don't think it is any harder--in fact in so many ways it is easier because I adore Red so much, and the characters.

Still, I've had to go back and dig facts out. The last couple of hours have been alot of fun for that reason. I'm now almost 40k into my new fic, which is a spin-off of Red that came out roughly 3ish years ago (and is selling so well still--in fact, getting best royalty check I've had in a long while). Woo. I wrote Red long before that though, more like 5ish years ago.

So because it has been so long ago since I've written in this universe, I've had a heck of a time remembering exactly who I named what. It took me thirty minutes just to find out what last name I'd given Lee. It didn't matter so much in Red, but dang it, now that he is a main character, I sure wish I'd given him a better last name than Nelson. So DULL! LOL. Oh well. Lee Nelson it is. I gave Gev more flair-- Gevan Sinclair. LOL.

Nelson and Sinclair. Sounds like a circus act--with animals.

I have a list now--a little bible I guess I'd have to say--of names, who is related to who (and uh I totally forgot that a guitarist was the sister of someone else, so important that) and where they'd been, etc. etc. etc. Got ages right (Lee is an old man of 33, lol, older than I'd like but hey, just makes him wiser, right? And Gev LOTS younger...cute!), etc. Things that weren't so vital to make workable back then now have to be.

I got the bodyguards mixed up--it was Mutt, not Jeff, who was gay, whose partner is Nick's (not my N of course--lol) personal chef, Greg. And so he has to be in this book too. Now he is. And now Mutt is too. I have to completely shift my brain so I see Mutt, not Jeff, in this fic. Argh. Different personality--sigh--Mutt is more militaristic and tough than Jeff is. Oh well. But he'd probably enjoy the ballet more than Jeff would, so it is all good...

I had alot of fun rereading parts of Red, too--I will always treasure this book. Out of all the things I've written, this is the only fic I feel this way about, that I always love turning back to. I did find a mistake though! ARGH!!! A body positioning mistake that if there'd been mirrors it would've been fine, but--sigh...but oh well. My fingers itch to correct, but I cannot.

It was nice to see other things in there too--so many hot scenes! Whoa. I'd forgotten about a couple of them--where DID that come from, I wonder!?!?!?!?! *innocent smile* I really can write the hot stuff, but I can't rush it either. It has to come when it comes. Naturally. LOL.

Got other names totally screwed up. EGADS! All straight now though, everyone named correctly, I have ages and places down, and time periods they were here and there. This'll be really helpful as I continue forward.

I've now worked my two guys into a position where they are forced apart by a gut-wrenching encounter with Lee's past. This is going to be fun because it will let me send Lee away to Durango for a little bit...but...lol...not sure if I really can do that, given I haven't technically gotten the guys together yet and I *am* trying to keep this one under 200k. I really move slow with my characters in that quarter...maybe too slow. I like lots of build-up, especially when I have One Reluctant Character. Grin. But man, I ache to get them together. Seriously do. Maybe this week. But I really want to send Lee back to Colorado...grrr...make him be dragged back. Will do it anyway.

Going to try and improve my wordcounts--February, I only got around 17k in. That is bad. Very bad.

Ah well, anyway. All else is fine around here. Makes me growly it is already almost 2:00 in the afternoon though. Why do weekends have to move so fast???? And weekdays inch by? I think we should have 3-day weekends.

That's all for now. Am enjoying a very peaceful Sunday here in cold but sunny FW.

Made a new icon of Red's cover with my famous blue man on it. LOL. I get so teased about that guy! Argh. Oh well, it is lovely, grin, even if it looks NOTHING like either one of the characters in Red. (sighs)
