EDITED TO ADD AFTER THE FACT: And then, my post just smacks of entire silly, since reading my friend Kevin just lost his big rig truck to fire and thus his income-generator, and nearly his dog Lucy, too. Welcome back Kevin, but geesh man, not like that!
Was sick Sunday, bleh. Was sick yesterday, went to work, came home early, bleh. Sick today, bleh. But I have accomplished one thing--getting my taxes done. I have almost just about enough coming back to pay for my ticket to Germany. WHEE!
Of course, the real buckling-down now begins. From now until July, I hereby promise the following:
No more Amazon purchases.
No more itunes purchases.
Those two things are actually my worst sins, believe it or not. Primarily Amazon. One can get all sorts of stuff on Amazon, after all! Not just books! Well, I *should* be strong and cancel my account but...no way. LOL.
In addition, I shall continue the following:
No eating out.
Keeping stern eye on electric usage
Taking advantage, for groceries, on sales, bargains, cheaper offbrands, etc. Think twice and three times, if I think I need something, and still not sure, ask Nick who of course will say no.
And, I'll Craigslist some unwanted items that I should be able to get some bucks for, will put all my Loose-Id money in The Secret Stash, drop all coins in the coin jar at the end of every week.
Goal between now and July is to save save save save. The more I can save from now til then, the more fun it'll be. Nick and I don't need much when we do these trips--we hardly eat, stay hydrated, and buy nothing much except food, coffee. Our bed and breakfast has a breakfast, so I for one plan to take advantage of that.
I miss the days of having alot of money. LOL you bet I do. But I am crazily excited about saving for something special over the next almost six months. January had some unexpected expenses (dentist, damn sorority crap -- Tiff is OUT of that now, thank heavens! she quit! yes! -- slayed by electric bill so have switched to a better company with lower rates (goodbye forever Reliant!) and Kelly's insurance didn't make my monthly payment go up nearly as much as I feared (until he gets his own car, mind you.).
This can be done, and it will be all the more special for it, I think. Really, no hotel to worry about in Germany, and the bed and breakfast is amazingly well-priced, so spending money is the primary need. The car rental--oy, I will handle that via credit card. Really best way.
And now to snuggle up with my puppies and take a nap, I think. Yawn. Then maybe I'll feel like working on the rest of the edits. So far this month for GYWO I've got 3 big fat goose eggs, but I *have* been sick, so...yeah. LOL.

Date: 2009-02-03 09:47 pm (UTC)On a side note, I made it a habit never to spend my change on the road. On my last outing I collected two jars of coins worth $120. CoinStar is a wonderful thing!

Date: 2009-02-03 11:23 pm (UTC)Kathy got coin jugs that keep track of how much change you drop in. Kinda neat watching the total grow.

Date: 2009-02-04 03:13 pm (UTC)I watched my first episode today. (Recorded it last night.)
I immediately thought of your story, Wolf Hunter.
The main character, played by Simon Baker, is employed as an independent detective working with the California Bureau of Investigation to solve crimes. He was making a living as a psychic and would assist the police on cases -- only his life changed when he lost the two most important people in his life to one of those serial killers he was helping track.
Though maybe you shouldn't watch it. I don't know. haha.
Anyway, good luck with your saving. :)
