There are so many things I'm trying to accomplish in 2009, that I've been noticing that I am losing grasp on parts of it. This is not good. So, this listing is more for me than anyone else's entertainment, but it always helps to write things down, right? Right. Of course!
So, I am making myself a list of things I'm dealing with, and what my progress is for each item so that, perhaps, I can find a better balance between that which I have to do (work, take care of the house, bills, etc) and that which I want to do (write, play on TWU, read TW fics, read in general, play with my puppies, exercise, cook--which I love doing now).
1. Lose weight. Done. 38 lbs. gone since January 1. Now working on stabilization of weight. It is interesting how much the body can fluctuate from one day to the other--hence the reason I have a 2 lb. leeway either direction of my current early-morning weight. Am on the high side since eating out Friday, growl. Working to get back on low side.
2. Begin preparations for trip this summer to Wales, and Germany (must not forget I need money then too, but will get hit with payday then, so not too worried about Germany). Plane tickets are purchased, hotel reservations are made. Credit card for car clear. Saving spending money and my half of hotel...begun. $500 set aside this month and each of the next three months should put me in good stead (and considering all the financial hell this month brought, it should be absolutely doable, and then some, over the next three months). Hopefully no more surprises will hit my front step and I'll have at least 2k to take with me to Wales (given the exchange rate, well...shall we not go there? No, we shall not. Fortunately, I have no plans to bring back presents, nor spend alot. We're not going there to shop, or eat, but to SEE. Still, the more money I have banked, the better. Oh yeah.).
3. Write a 100,000 word manuscript by July 1. Begun, more than 1/3rd complete. (Ballet Boy fic). I want it done before my trip so it can ferment (lol) while I am gone, so I can do the rewrite when I get back, and send it in to editor sometime in August. Tonight, I organized all the scenes I wrote into proper chapters. Nine chapters complete, each roughly around 6,000 words, with from 3 to 5 scenes each. Because, you know, that's what chapters ARE. Right. (private snark due to discussion with N today about certain goings-ons elsewhere in the world of fandom about chapter length, scenes, etc.).
4. GYWO -- only 13,776 words behind! No comment, but not worried either. Yet.
5. Exercise. The treadmill is dusted. My exercise clothes are laid out. Tomorrow, when I get up and let out the doggies, I get on the treadmill while they do their thing out there. Will start out with just one mile...will build back up to 2-3 every other morning, soon as I can build up to it. I also have an exercise book given to me by my friend Holly--I am still making faces at it, but once I'm back on the treadmill track, will give it a go. I suppose. It uses weights. And, eek, crunches!
6. Fandom. Am enjoying my recent head-first plunge into the TW fandom, very much these days. Said plunge took place last week...the water finally felt just right, and now I wonder, why did it take so long for me to do this? I know why, it wasn't...right yet. No further explanations necessary, I think. TWU and the peoples on it have made a huge difference in how I feel about this fandom and having a place in it as more than Nick's g/f.
and that leads to...
7. Writing in the TW fandom. After recent discussions on TWU about writing and wips and different kinds of stories...I just might, just might, just might pull out the Andy fic I started last year, but put aside in frustration because I really was flummoxed by TW canon. I mean, really flummoxed. Serial killer fanfiction though? As that is what my Andy story is. Not sure that will go over well, but...I really want to write this. And Andy, you know...PC Andy, he's just so much fun to mess with. Nothing writing-wise will be in this journal, however.
into_officeboys is where it will be stashed. Eventually. Not for awhile yet. when we go to Wales, I'll be madly taking notes of so many things I might chance to need to know for writing this. I think it will be alot of fun, and a challenge for me too. Not a bad thing, to just write a fic for the sheer fun of it again (rather than for the cold hard intent of publishing it). LOL that will be another challenge though, honestly--to keep the 'okay when I am done, how can I turn this into a salable fic?' mantra out of my head. Because, frankly, the way I am planning this, it could never be anything but Torchwood.
8. And here sits all the rest of the things I am doing--from getting back into walking the dogs (methinks part of the reason I have not is because Nick and I walked them together all the time, and it will make me cry to walk alone with them, sigh), to cleaning out the garage and selling a few items I don't need anymore (hello Craigslist!) to finding creative ways to replace my entire wardrobe since nothing fits anymore and i don't want to spend the money. And reading (trying to read a little every night in the tub) and gardening too. I want an herb garden! Out front of course. Can just imagine what husky paws would do to a nice little plot of earth out back. Um, not a good idea.
That's alot of things I want to be doing at once. Scheduling is silly, though I've considered it...no, what I must do is find a way to balance everything so that I feel satisfied with my progress in all the main areas (writing, exercising, reading, puppies) with all the secondary areas (sleeping, work, house stuff) week in and week out, without stressing about any of it.
Should be easy, right? Just a matter of balance, that's all...
LOL.
