Marching along to March

48 days after today to go...and I am back with Nick! We're meeting in London on March 23rd, bright and shiny in the morning, for 8 nights of adventure (geesh I better do my vacation days when I get to work lol). We'll first head to Cardiff via train where we will, of course, stay at Ty Rosa. Just booked that. Plans are to tromp around, visit Nick's favorite beach, perhaps rent a car a couple of days and zoom around a bit (avoiding ALL C ROADS GOT THAT NICK?) and enjoy staying at Ty Rosa, and eating those marvelous breakfasts, seeing Stuart and Paul (and Keith) again, and playing with Max. Maybe they'll let us take him on a walk! If not, play with him for sure. Got the same room as last time--Caerphilly Castle--and hopefully we'll miss trash day. Hate trash day (evil seagulls, though the experience helped me later with a fic).

Then it is back to London for four nights. We're staying at the Chelsea House Hotel. It will be an experience! We refuse to pay the big bucks just to sleep--we know we'll get our best hotel (okay B&B) experience in Cardiff, but we're not going to London to stay in a fancy hotel room. We'd rather spend our money on having a good time doing things. So we got a good decent place with decent ratings, and will be headed out to tromp around like crazy every day.

We also plan to see a show or two. Probably Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Haven't bought those tickets yet, or the airline tickets, but that I'll get taken care of when I get my tax refund on the 12th. Probably flying Air Canada. Maybe. We'll see...

A little shorter trip this time, but packed full of fun. After last time, when we went to Germany and stayed at Nick's flat, I think we were both rather mopey and worn down. LOL. This will work much better and whee, London! I didn't see enough of it last time!

Okay better get to the shower!

48 days to go!

Sounds fantastic! I can only imagine which beach you're referring to...

A word re: Priscilla - try to spend a bit extra to NOT sit in the upper circle. My sister and I were there last year, and it was the steepest, tightest, warmest theatre-going experience of our lives.

So you recommend Stalls or something? I'm teeth crunchy a bit about price of tickets for Priscilla (dude. Dude.) so ngah, I'd hate to have to shell out that much. Hmm.

Maybe dress circle? I mean, that's the reason we were up in the gods, but it was BAD. My sister's a petite thing, and she had her chin on her knees.

I was sitting in Upper Circle or whatever, in the New Theatre in cardiff and dude, that was also not a knee friendly experience for me or the people in front of me, so I can quite picture that, actually, yeah. Ah natch. I'll have a think about it

Ha-ha! Awesome, and glad you two are going to pull it off.

It's been a tough few months getting everything situated where we can, but that's what you do when you want to be with someone. You make changes, and make it work. It is worth it.

:)

So exciting. I was in London a bazillion years ago the summer I graduated high school. I have no idea where we stayed except that it had to have been in the vicinity of The Victoria and Albert as I remember pretty distinctly walking down Brompton Rd past the V&A to Harrods. Mostly 'cause it was so so like the walk the Fossils take at the beginning of Ballet Shoes. :)

SO jealous. I must go back some day.

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
LOL it probably has changed a little bit! And yes, I LOVE the Fossils. I still want to get my hands on the original BBC production. :)

Travel used to seem out of my reach but I just shifted priorities, and put everything toward that. It is worth it! :) I hope you do someday. Will not be taking the laptop, but will write about it.

I know we will. Absolutely.

So glad you're going back, and soon!!!!

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
ME TOO!!!! But it feels like forever.

[identity profile] talekyn.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I know! Just like September feels like forever!

Gasp ... Cody might be out of college by then and not working at that restaurant anymore. Then what will I do????

London is loads of fun. So is Cardiff, of course. ;-) I really wanted to go see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof while I was there - it looked SUPERB - but didn't find out that I wanted to see it until we were already there and saw the posters on the underground. Of course by then it was too late (we were there during the holidays; couldn't get tickets to ANYTHING). Billy Elliot is still running, and it's also supposed to be excellent. Ballet boy and all that. ;-)

I am sure you will manage to have fun no matter what you do. You will have your Nick with you, after all.

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
that last sentence? Yeah. Definitely. I will see whatever he wants to. I'd like Cat but I am pretty sure he knows nothing about it. We'll figure out the what-to-sees later.

What ELSE does one do in London at night? Other than drink, neither of us big drinkers oddly enough. But to sit in a pub and have a pint would be nice. Once. LOL.

[identity profile] aseas-words.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
We were on a tight budget during our trip, so mostly we wandered around the city at night. Marylebone High Street, SOHO, Picadilly... they are worth wandering. We spent a night in a pub, I think we ended up drinking two pints each (yeah, not big drinkers, either), but it was a fun experience anyhow. If you like live music it might be worthwhile to try to find a cafe/restaurant with live music and chill there for an evening. Beyond that, I can't help ya... we were both sick in London and tended to go back to the pod hostel and go to bed early. :-P Edinburgh at night on the other hand!!!!

It's great that you got the same room again and hope you enjoy London as well as Cardiff. There are so many brilliant shows in London.

[identity profile] paragraphs.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Isn't that cute? I am looking forward to going back. VERY VERY looking forward to it.

[personal profile] samueljames 2010-02-04 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet you can't wait to see Nick. I love London, used to go a lot before claustrophobia made me afraid of flying. My mam used to say she didn't understand why I'd go back to the same place again but London has so much choice for musicals and plays compared to Ireland.

The good thing about going to Cardiff again is you know where stuff is already and can make the most of your time there. Hope you have a great time. Will there be a travel report again or has the novelty of roundabouts worn off?
