This is a boring post - goals for the weekend

1. Play with Maddox. This is not an odd thing to list, as these last couple of weeks it has been near-impossible to throw the ball for him. He is so sad about this he has eaten his throw-ball. He'd already eaten his good ones. I need to order him a new one, but not spending money right now.

2. Read. I am reading The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. This is all [livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill's fault after our recent discussion re: atomic-era sci fi movies. I loved those things when I was a kid! She told me "that movie sucks but the book is awesome!" So, I had to get it. It was published originally in 1951, but so many things Wyndham explores are spot-on for today also. It's dated, and yet...it isn't.

I'm reading it on my beloved new itouch my sister bought for me. I love love love my little new toy! I know alot of people who scoff at ebook readers, they'd rather have the feel and smell of a real book, but reading books on my itouch is brilliant. Small, always-ready, can read in the dark, curled up and snuggled into blankets, and just a tap shuts it down. Open it next time and it goes right to where I left off. I am sold. SO much easier to deal with than either a Nook or a Kindle.

3. Begin my [livejournal.com profile] dark_fest fic. The goal for this fic is between 5-10k. I have a rough idea what I want to do, but want to get it started this weekend.

4. Begin my [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood fic. This one will be long and windy.

5. Clean house. Daughter is gone for the weekend. This is SWEET. I plan to dump her crap in her room, do the floors, dust and clean and just get this house back up to snuff.

6. Clean out my car. It needs it.

7. Attend the writer's group thing tomorrow at 1:00 at Border's on Hulen.

8. Figure out what the hell to work on for writer's group thing tomorrow (not fanfic there, nope).

Maybe the two should be switched?

My computer is running hot and I have no idea why. Going to shut it down for a bit. So weird!

Do you mind if I ask you how you decided your word count goal for dark_fest? I mean, is it that you think the story you want to tell will end up about that length, or what? Is it based on the amount of time you want to spend writing it? I never start out writing anything with an idea of how long it will end up being, so I'm just curious.

LOL well, mostly it is the amount of time I want to spend on it, and having a basic idea of what I want to do. I think that should cover it. It'll be fun to see what actually happens there!

I guess also that isn't unusual for me to think "I want this around this long." I've not done many non-book-length fics though. So I could be talking out of my ears here.

Except for the lit part, everything you said about your iTouch is also true of the Kindle. It doesn't light up b/c they want to replicate the book experience, and books aren't backlit. I actually find it easier on the eyes than looking at a computer screen.

I went out w/ a friend today and was using my kindle when she walked up to me. She immediately started bemoaning how this would ruin socialization. "Now we can't see what people are reading and talk to them about it!" I pointed out she could just ask, but she didn't like that idea. I don't care. I've got 1500 spots for books and fanfic is finally portable. Long live the eReader!

LOL. Well, I couldn't afford a kindle, either, and I like the backlight, myself. Doesn't bother my eyes at all. I would not turn down a kindle if someone gave it to me (was not so impressed with the Nook--a friend has one and I didn't manifest a desire for it). So the itouch for me is perfect--tiny, yeah, but perfect for my running-around life.

The other day stuck in traffic it was so nice to whip that puppy out and read while sitting there, moving a few feet, sit, move a few feet...

No one has ever asked me about a book I was holding in my hand, not that I can think of. Generally when people are sitting there reading they don't want to be disturbed! And I won't stop reading regular books, either. But this is just a delight to have. :)

I've now watched Singing in the Rain (twice). That movie really cheers you up if you are feeling down. Gene Kelly is brilliant. Now I've made a small plan for reel_torchwood for the characters and setting. It won't be set in Hollywood but across the Atlantic.

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I will watch YGMail again since I was working while watching the first time. :)

I love my iPod touch! It works just fine as an e-reader for me.

That's a big list, your weekends must come with extra days *g*

I love E-readers! I have one of those Sony ones, the ease of carrying like 100 books in one little device is great.
