I was looking for a picture of a C road today for [livejournal.com profile] amand_r when I stumbled upon the perfect one, which happened to be located in the Brecon Beacons. That's when I realized that I had never finished posting these pictures, and that really, though I remember the day very well, and the adventure of driving up up up into the hills, and over rugged roads, down and across and in circles of C roads, passing sheep, scaring sheep, finding hidden pathways and big streams, etc. etc., I can't recall any little details. Other than, of course, it was beautiful, the day was slightly cool and rainy, and we were both just so WOW over the gorgeous countryside.

I want to go back. NEED to go back. While our trip this time did include a day of driving, we headed West, not North, and North is what draws me back. Next trip, by golly, we are headed NORTH.

Am back home from Topeka, full of lots of career-type thoughts about GIS and my company and the expansion plans and demands to come--it is all very exciting and going to be difficult and awesome, and I'm glad to be a part of it, yet there will never not be a part of me that doesn't want to just pack up my dogs, clothes, and my elephant and head permanently out of here. Smile--to Wales, that is where I would go. Cardiff attracted my attention because of Torchwood, but the city itself, and Wales, snagged me forever.

Nick is going back soon, and I am happy he gets to. In June! That's next month! (I just screeched that in realization). That is London. And then in October, a return to Cardiff.

Dammit, why can't I be a European? Grumble grumble. *kicks wall* OUCH!

Beautiful, scenic, rustic ... gorgeous! I need to go there eventually!

Glad you're excited about changes at work -- they can be a blessing and a curse!

too bad you don't have a reason to take your job across the pond, huh. :) I say you should save up and choose a dream destination then DO it. Everyone should!!!

Did you add your name to your user pic? I am trying to think if that is new!!!

I will do that dream destination some day, but it will be Scotland first.

Nope, that name's been there since Allan created that icon for me!

Thank you darling Markybaby! I wish I'd taken more, seriously, but we were so WOWED by it all, kinda didn't reach for the camera enough. :)

The Brecons are just WHOA. Wales' countryside has totally stolen me away, am afraid...I love how so much can be reached relatively easily. One just has to be brave. Those C roads are really scary, but lead to the best treasures! I kinda left out there just how much I grumbled at Nick for making me drive them. Once we even went in a complete circle without realizing it!

Kel I hope you go someday. Seriously. There are ways to do it much cheaper than we did, and I swear there is a special magic to the land over there. Really though, having a car is just the best. It would be crazy fun to gather up a bunch of you kids and meet us over there and I rent a big ol van and we head out North and REALLY explore. Wouldn't that be hilarious? You and Blue and Mander and Me and Nick would be a good group to start with. LOL. Damn that would be a trip.

When is there gonna be more Misfits?

Far as I know they start filming this month but production time is the same like it would be for a show like Torchwood, so it'll be a while.

Lovely pictures. It looks like you were lucky with the weather that day. The Beacons aren't as rugged as Snowdonia, but the scenery is lovely down there.

I hope it's not too long before you can get back here. Wales does tend to get under your skin. I'm not a native, but from coming here on holidays as a kid, I was hooked.

Hey, academic question: can one climb Snowden? Is it an actual mountain per se? I see that there's a park, but I'm unclear as to how BIG it is, height wise.

Yes, you can climb Snowdon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowdon). It's 3560 feet (1085 metres) and the highest mountain in Wales, higher than anything England has got, but not as big as the Scottish peaks. But if you don't feel up to the physical challenge and you have money, you can go up on a train (http://www.snowdonrailway.co.uk/). :)

Snowdonia is the area covered by the National Park, so I live in Snowdonia (right down at the south end), though I'm about an hour or so's drive from the mountain itself. We do have other mountains around here though (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heleninwales/4592784559/), but it's not as rugged as Snowdon and the mountains immediately surrounding it. The Brecon Beacons is different again.

I swear it, summer of 2011 I will be back. And for longer, because this trip of 8 days was simply not enough. I want a full two weeks, by golly! So much more to explore!!

I realize there are many beautiful places I've not seen here in the States, but I love the feeling of being an alien in an alien land. Silly but true. I have yet to see a castle! I need my one castle! LOL.

I love the 2nd one with the gentle curve of the wooden fence and the ogive of the hills with the lowering clouds.

The waterfall one reminds me of the Falls of Shin. I rather annoyed the visitor centre assistant by quipping to my partner that they got their name because they're only knee-high.

Nick took that one--I could never get that panoramic feature figured out on my new camera. I am thinking of getting that one in particular, and the one that is my header (of Gwbert) printed out and framed. I have the perfect blank wall for that.

It was so peaceful up there! We got out of the car, scaring the poor sheep...Nick liked to find the oddest roads to make me go down. I am positive we wouldn't have explored what we did had he not navigated so well. Couldn't drive and do that for certain.

OH my goodness! I just found more pictures! Now I have to make another post!
