My job I've loved the last oh decade, thereabouts? Got ruined this week. My boss got fired, let go, sent off, whatever. I've known Chris for 14.5 years, worked for him almost 10, and now, he is gone.

This is hard. Chris is my age, we have alot in common including losing a spouse in the past...he was fantastic to me during Kel's illness and after. He's been more than just a boss for a long time now, hugely supportive of me and my work. I don't know all the details yet (bossboss is saying one thing, Chris another), but I know enough to know from here on out, I'll be watching my back, being extra-careful not to screw anything up, and start thinking seriously about other options.

I have no idea what else I *can* do. My job is unique and not applicable anywhere else.

Maybe I will go back to school...study what? Hmmm, I dunno.

Makes me sad. Yesterday, I was also angry, furious, frustrated, and extremely disappointed. Okay still all those things.

Sigh. Damn.

My work doesn't change much, as I actually work for Allan, it is more...Chris won't be there to yack at, my protective shield is gone, and having to adopt a cautious attitude sucks.

I hate it when everything changes like that. I know sort of how it feels.
But maybe something good can come out of it--maybe you can go back to school and learn something else that you really love. You never know.

And platitudes don't help, I know, but here's my Welsh mantra lately:
(forgive the possible mistranslation/spelling errors...)

"Beth popeth yn iawn."
(Everything will be alright.)

Hope you don't mind me offering a gentle correction, but the spelling should be "Bydd popeth yn iawn."

Perhaps we're less optimistic in our house, but our favourite Welsh mantra is "Un dydd ar y tro." (One day at a time) from the old song of that title. :)

Thank you very much for the correction! I was recalling from memory and couldn't for the life of me remember how the whole thing was spelled. ;)

I like your mantra too. Might have to have that one as my backup.

I am so sorry to hear that! That really sucks.

Keep your options open...didn't you learn some other aspect of the job (which, okay, I utterly don't get, so I don't know what new skill you learned or how marketable elsewhere that would be).

Um. The usual "I don't know what to do with my life at this point" educational strategy is law school.

Anyway. Sorry that work will be less...pleasant, enjoyable, stable, reliable...all that. You've had a lot of change there over the past months!

I'm sorry ::hug:: sometimes, change really sucks.

go to school. Live off student loans and write books until you're making enough to support yourself.

UGH. That's awful! I'm so sorry this happened. There's nothing to say, really, to make this blow easier.

**HUG**

I know what it feels like to have things shaken up at your job. Especially after you've had it a certain way for so long... it just SUCKS.

Hang in there.

I hate that they let him go, for whatever reason. I doubt Chris would lie to you and unfortunately the business has every reason to not let you know the truth. Sad but true state of affairs.

If you are thinking of going to college to learn something else, find out what places are hiring and if you could see yourself doing that before committing to classes.

Then again, maybe this is to push you along to writing more and being published again.

Will Chris be able to at least get unemployment under these circumstances? I truly hope he can find something else soon.

*hugs* ♥

Oh, dear. That is not good. :(

It's very unsettling to lose a valued colleague, even if they leave for a good reason such as retirement or new better job elsewhere. To have one sacked really sucks.

I am indefinitely sorry you are having such a lousy time and I agree that it sounds as if an exit strategy would be a good thing to have.

You might want to give thoughts to finding a job in the UK ;-)

*BIG HUGS*

that sucks, man, but who knows? maybe you'll stumble across something you love EVEN MORE that you never would have found if you weren't forced to look... that was an AWFUL sentence and i apologise, but i hope you got the meaning :)

(also, omg it is so weird that your husband and son have the same name as me - i know it's a VERY COMMON name, but it's weird, yo!)

Sorry to hear about Chris losing his job. It must be tough for you to lose a boss after such a long time and for him to be suddenly out of a job. Hopefully you will find something else that you can do.

Yeah, it is one hell of a shock. What used to be the best job ever is now...not. Rather sucks completely, but I am okay. No danger of my losing my own, I don't think. Hope not anyway!
