Okay so I am tired of being surrounded by all these crazy amazing knitters, which includes my Dalek-making boyfriend, and I've been whining about wanting to do Something Creative for AGES, and last night I finally decided what the hell, now that I have glasses to see up close lol I *could* go back to cross-stitching. But what? I took all my old cross-stitch creations down ages ago, as they are no longer 'me.' So I got to thinking well, I could do something fantasy-ish! With Dragons! I remembered I had a favorite cross-stitch artist ages ago, Teresa Wentzler, and I liked her dragons...internet search shows she no longer creates patterns. Wow. That's sad. I did find a couple of hers I liked, but I wanted to do a RED dragon. Like the Welsh, yeah?

So I started looking around at red dragons. Of course the two kinds that popped up were Chinese, and Welsh. Welsh! BUT OF COURSE!!! But the problem was I didn't find ANY that were the high-quality, difficulty I craved. (I was pretty good at cross-stitch, yeah...pretty much about to hit the 'omg I must do something IMPOSSIBLY complicated next! and then Life happened, and well. Yeah.).

Dissatisfied, I started searching for decent depictions of the Welsh dragon and finally I found one I really liked alot, based on a watercolor of the Welsh dragon. Using a cross-stitch pattern maker I created a wonderfully-complicated pattern, and am off to use my gift-card I got to buy the stuff. I think I will do it on linen, which I really loved to work on despite it being more difficult, unless I see a material that is an even-weave I like.

So, here is a bit of what I will be working on for the next, oh, year or so. LOL.

Since I just finished reading Jenny's fic, I fully believe we all need more dragons in our lives. Especially Welsh ones. Stitch away!

Rock on, C! I admire all you peeps who can create things like that. I am most definitely not one of them.

Thank you! I plan to share progress. It is annoying me though--why are all the cool shops so far away, and closed on Sundays? GROWL. I am just going to go to Michael's tomorrow and get stuff there. I am eager to get going on this. I need a creative release for the other side of my brain! This should do me in nicely!

Oooh, what a lovely dragon! That's definitely going to be a fun cross-stitch project! Although, at the level of difficulty it is, I think you are fully justified in moving to the term embroidery. Will you post periodic updates so we can follow along and drool from home? ;-)

YES! I am going to do a little dragon first though. His name is Stretch. I think I am going to drop the background out of the big one, and instead use the Celtic border that Stretch has. :) I think it will be prettier, and the dragon will pop out more without a solid background. :)

A Celtic border sounds like an excellent idea. And, yeah, he will show up much better that way. :-)

He will be awesome! I am doing a smaller practice dragon first, as I think I am going to have to order the material that I want for this guy. I've got a couple stores I can look but of course none are open on Sundays or even Mondays. Hmph!
