6:25 at the end of a holiday weekend and I finally perk up. Also! My new desk setup is all set up. What I need now is plants. More plants. BIG PLANTS.

Where does one find plants, cheap? Do cheap plants exist? I used to know someone who worked at a plant store and she told me when they would throw out old plants... But that place is now a golf store. Dammit!

Is there an online cheap place to order big house plants...

Okay let me take a picture of the latest version of Carolyn Creates a Place to Write Seriously This Winter.

The only problem with the desk is the edge under the pullout drawer- in shorts I have already scraped my leg. Hmmm.

desk are

And the other direction... Still need another chair for my little table. But they cost $179 apiece so they have to wait.

DINING AREA

Look all nice and everything but the carpet needs to go, really badly, and the walls need repainting. Sigh. It is always something!!!

Been watching Mad Men. Nick dragged me into it by watching it while on vacation, so I got hooked despite myself. Am trying to watch it slowly - only one or two episodes at a time - to savor it. I think I actually already said this in a post, didn't I? I am sure I did!!!

Just ready to get started on my Nano novel, NOW.

Thanks to all of you who stop by... I seem to be mostly talking to myself but I guess that is the best use of LJ anyway, right?

Today my mom would've been 78. Or maybe 79, geesh - my dad is almost 81, at the end of the month. Lost mom so long ago... and before she even died (strokes, I hate them so). I miss her all the time, miss having her to call and talk to and share stuff with and just be a kid to. My dad is always there of course but there's nothing like a mom. Miss you so much, Mom. So not fair we lost you so young.

Love Mad Men. I've seen all the seasons but the first and we're starting inion that now. Up to ep 4.

Home Depot or Lowe's are decent for plants.

I am on Season 2. Had no idea I would like this so much. Oh this is episode 9. Marilyn Monroe is dead! EEEK!

My parents used to smoke constantly but they stopped when I was born for some reason I have no idea.

It took me awhile to get used to the pacing of it, which is kind of slow, but I grew to love it. There are just so many levels to each episode. Plus there are definite moments of nostalgia for me.

My dad smoked when I was a kid.

I couldn't stop watching last night! Darn addicting show makes me sit and watch when I should've been doing other things. OH WELL. Now that I live alone, there is no one but me to fuss at me, right?

LOL I'm mainlining Under the Dome right now. It tends to end on a cliffhanger, making you want to watch the next one right away.

I know a lot of people make cuttings without asking of plants they like...

Otherwise, maybe Freecycle?

Hmmm Freecycle! Hello there btw! And yes on cuttings - my co worker has some amazing plants she is going to take cuttings of this winter but it will take forever for them to grow.

I will check out Freecycle. Thank you!

Freecycle - I got rid of a whole bunch of plants I needed to pull out this spring that way. It was fantastic. Worth a try.

I was going to suggest Freecycle, but [livejournal.com profile] ericadawn16 beat me to it. :)

You may find people wanting to re-home plants that have outgrown their space or have gone rampant and need dividing.

I am so sorry about your mom. I dread losing mine. (she'll be 81 in November, and is trying to retire from work.)

Mad Men is best watched in swoops--each season is an arc, the episodes like chapters.

Well I just broke my rule about only watching one or two. LOL. I have to see what happens (episode 2-9, the 'Marilyn Monroe dies') episode. And thank you. Feel the same about my dad. :(

She is still working at 81? :( Unless of course she has loved what she does. Then go her!!

She can't afford not to, alas.

Oh, so you're in season one? It does get much better.

No, two. Watching 2-10! :)

:( As a single woman, I wonder if I will ever get to retire (even though I get my spouse's Lockheed pension in a few years, it is not enough to live on).

Yeah . . . my mom got into the workforce in her forties when she and dad divorced, and she's been criminally underpaid all along because she was always afraid of being fired. So she works harder than any three younger people for a fraction of the pay. Her social security will barely cover her trailer's rent and fees.

That is criminal. :( Just downright criminal. :(

So very tired myself, but hello. Look at you getting all organized. Does anyone in your office have plants. I've got most of my plants from clippings of the ladies I used to work with.

Yes! all three of my plants in my office ARE clippings and I was just looking at them all, thinking hmmm... could use a haircut, couldn't you...

We used to keep trimmings in water here but little bugs started to move in.

I am aces at organizing! But not so aces in utilizing all the finished organized things. LOL.

OMG, I love this desk so much! It actually looks quite like mine (at least functionally--mine is wooden), it's also got that pull-out shelf thing for the keyboard. :D Yay for creating writing spaces! Will you be doing NaNoWriMo this year? :D? *huggles* ♥ ♥
