It has been many months since I wrote a post, except for the GYWO community posts I write now and then.  I just came back online last night after almost 2 months without internet.  The first 3 weeks were great!  I got so much done! I got into a good treadmill habit, cooked, read a lot, hammered out words...  And then it started to get dark earlier, and though the cold isn't here yet, the darkness made me feel lonely.  So next thing you know I am using all my data up on my phone.  Not good.

So got back on the internets and here I am watching netflix, some documentary about water. This is however research, for real!  Water and the lack and manipulation of plays a big role in my ms so I thought this would be interesting.  In fact it is, and has given me some ideas, but it sure is frightening too what parts of the world do with precious water.  (Focus on a tanning factory in India made me nauseous, watching that chemical-laden brackish water pouring into a  river where people bathe and wash and I don't want to know what else).

I am waiting to hear from Hodderscape.  Decisions started going out on the 29th of September.  Nothing yet.  Will they want more?  Will they say thanks but no thanks? Who knows?  Whether or not they want the rest, I'm having so much fun with this story.  I'd like to have it finished by end of the year but we will see.

I also pulled out my ancient fantasy I stopped working on about 15 years ago.  I have no wish to pursue self publishing with it, or traditional publishing (as I am pursuing that with the current ms).  So I am seriously considering having fun with Wattpad with it.  I've got quite a bit of it and I'd like to finish it.  It is funny, rereading that which I wrote long ago makes me realize just how well I wrote back then.  Would that I had never let those who destroyed my belief in what I was doing get near it.   But I am happy with what I am doing now. YA fantasy aka A Girl's Adventure Story is my jam.  As is writing in first person. SO MUCH LOVE.

Otherwise not much else going on.  Kids are good (and both have serious partners! oh my stars), work is good (busy as always), getting my treadmill time in almost every day.  I'm doing Couch to 5k but took off last week. Why did I do that?  Got to get back into it.  My son is staying with me a couple nights a week which is nice, and that is all.

Now to curl up and reread what I wrote by hand at lunch today. I only meant to jot a few things down and ended up writing six handwritten pages.

I love it - I am so glad I entered the Hodderscape thing even if nothing comes of it, as it forced me to really ponder hard about this story - 2 page synopsis was required! Eek. I firmly believe in this story, I really do. And in my writing. If not Hodderscape though, I am targeting spring for agent hunting once I am done with this thing and get that tingle you get when you know it is ready. LOL!

And after that, while it rests/hunts for an agent/whatever, I will finallllllyyyy turn to my boy player story. Unless I should begin the 2nd in the first series, but interestingly to me the general advice given at Dragoncon in the YA panels was to NOT write the 2nd until the first finds a home/agent. That will be weird to me as I am already excited about book 2... WHO KNOWS WHAT IS RIGHT? Maybe Hodderscape will want it and then that decision will be made for me (DREAM ON GIRL).

Anyway. Life is good and I love my story. That is all. LOL!

Still crossing fingers for you on Hodderscape, and so glad you're feeling good about your writing and your writing past! Sometimes it's really good to read old writing and still like it. ♥

Every morning first thing I do is check that email. Since it is in the UK I figure I will wake up to yay or nay. LOL! I am finding NO reactions anywhere though! Maybe they are asking people to stay quiet!

They also could have gotten more submissions than expected and are late on making decisions/sending out responses?

I try not to check and worry, but every time I get an email at my pro account, I'm like, "Tor? Is it you?" (It is not. Their response time can be as long as 7 months and I'm not even to 5 yet.)

They got 1,445 submissions, and said they would be starting to contact people on September 29th, and everyone will know one way or the other by the end of October. Crazybeans!!!! So my anticipation will stay hi until I hear.

I am retyping that which I hand wrote this week and it feels so drively. Ahhhhh... I may end up cutting it all. But not until the rewrite. I am determined to move forward and get this draft down asap. THEN I can fix. Right????

:)

When I handwrite, I use typing to edit some. I might not scrap a scene, but I'll tweak lines, or delete things that don't make sense. I think it's okay to rewrite under those circumstances, just as long as you don't completely go off track.

I've got it all typed up now but I can't just leave it and move onward - I'm going to take the weekend to shape up everything and make it pretty. I am too afraid to have too much in super rough form to move on, but I can already see I will have to cut a bunch from this section later. Condense it. I am too far ahead on my wordcount for where I am in the story if I am going to keep it under 100k!

HA HA! Yeah, I have that problem, too. So many woooords! ;)

The best news about writing is that we all make our own rules. Do what you need to do.

You are so right! I love it, I do love being so happy with a story. That hasn't happened in a long, long long long long long long long time. LONG TIME.

Great update. Yeah, I wonder what would happen to my productivity if I didn't have the internet. Hmmmm.

Glad to hear about the writing. I'm waiting to hear from Carina on my latest opus. We are coming up on two months and still no word.Sigh

Waiting is so HARD - at least with hodderscape they've told us all that all would be notified by the end of October one way or the other.

Well - I have decided that I will find my discipline a different way. LOL! Living alone as I do, I need my peoples. That being said, I definitely am fine with cutting back the tv watching. There just isn't time to watch all the things everyone else does, not with working 45ish hours a week, commuting, keeping eye on my MIL, writing group fun, etc.
