I took a vacation day! This is what I did on my vacation:
Got up at six a.m., loaded with about 25 bags of trash, boxes, assorted junk--oh yes, loaded what you say? The UHaul I rented the night before. I cleared out TONS of junk--it took an hour to load the UHaul, then after showering, taking Kelly to school (it is 8 o'clock at this point) I headed for the dump and unloaded it all.
Fun!
I ran by Home Depot on the way, bought a new rug, drooled over the dishwashers, talked to Nick and then took the UHaul back.
Then--I met with the following at my house:
Home Depot Painter Dude--will repaint Kelly's mess of a room, and the bathroom.
Town and Country Dude--got my shipment of organic meats and vegetables--oh yes I've gone healthy!
Fence dude--still awaiting that estimate. The one from Home Depot was almost $6000.00. For fencing. For that crap that keels over in about ten years. Um... No. I want cedar, but the Cedar was almost $7,000. More worth it, but do I have that much laying around? Um, no. So hoping this guy's estimate will be better.
Had quiet time with Nick. And no, not enough. Never enough. Sigh.
Picked up son at school w/daughter, headed for HOme Depot, picked out bedroom paint, bathroom paint, plus a color for the little bathroom downstairs. It's about time I finished that I think. Headed home, made a spendiferous dinner--chicken (mmmm) thai stir fry after kissing Nick goodnight. So good! (Oh, that was for the dinner--no one's business how the kiss goodnight was lol). Cleaned the kitchen, then brushed the sibes outside for a long, long time. So beautiful out.
Finally came inside, snuggled up to watch the first two episodes of CRIMINAL MINDS. Makes me think, very roughly, of WITHOUT A TRACE though there are more people in this one and the character development is moving faster. Which is not a bad thing. Then watched one more X-FILES. Oh yeah. Ran some laundry, scrubbed spots on carpet, fed the dogs somewhere in there...
All in all, quite a relaxing vacation day, don't you think? LOL.
Ohhh I got fan mail tonight! SQUEE!! Made me grin.
I just read "A Red-Tainted Silence" and wanted to tell you that I really, really enjoyed it. It was so refreshing to see, in this genre especially, an author that obviously put a lot of thought and attention into telling a really engaging story. I read at least a book a day and this book is definitely in my top 5 of the last year. Have you written any other books...under a different name, perhaps? Are you planning to write more?
Now...isn't that cool. Y'all know (or some do--those who know about this book, and why and when I wrote it) that this was not to be the beginning of lots of books along this line. It was meant to be a one-off, not even sold, much less make the nice little sum it has over the last couple of years. But, so many have asked for more, and many specifically for Lee's story, that I told my editor (one crazy day) that I would write another.
The problem with that is my editor does not want it long (Red was 250,000 words--what does it matter ebookwise, anyway?) or in first person. Honestly--the 'no first person' chaps me. Not that I am demanding I write Lee's story in first, which I'm not--but just having it strongly suggested I completely change what had worked so successfully before...well, it chaps. Which is one reason why I've put this off for so long.
But...I kinda have a plot now, that I really like, which came to me pretty much while Nick and I were driving home from San Antonio, listening to music. Granted, these books are not what I want to be known for writing, but Red was a blast to write, I loved it beyond reason, and still do. Still miss it. Quite a bit. Sigh... But more than anything, I miss the joy of writing.
Now that I seem to be doing pretty well (I did not die at all doing all the above--though I am pretty darn exhausted) and I have a good laptop, and a plot, and some incentive, no reason not to start Lee's story and get cracking. The problem is--how do I break my addiction to the Doctor? LOL. And X-Files. And now, sigh, Criminal Minds, cuz I do like it lots. Appeals on a totally different level.
The Sibes are rough housing on my bed. Okay now they're gone. I hate it when it rains...
If the numbness would go away from my left hand's fingers it would be nice too.
And oh--one last thing--my treadmill is going to be here on Monday. YIPPEE!!!!!!
Carolyn, rambling (obviously) but happily so, feeling better and more optimistic about things today than have in quite awhile ;) Just have to keep that feeling going...else I shall go mad! Oh patience! Oh waiting--how I hate thee!

Date: 2008-05-15 05:49 pm (UTC)Yeah--it was sweet. I have been struggling (and whining) so much about my health, and finding writing time, and having the ENERGY for writing time...though I know the answer to that. Eating right. I have slipped up and now I see that my energy has fallen to the wayside. So, back on track, this is day #3, and I really do feel better.

Date: 2008-05-15 05:55 pm (UTC)The Tiff is home, and we are all attacking fixing up the house the rest of the way (and touching up what needs it). I know that just starting to get this stuff going is making me happy too--oh yeah. Which reminds me--need to fax the paint colors, and go order my son's bed. LOL. IKEA!
