What we did today:

Drove to Mesquite, TX to pick up this little girl:

She is a coyote-husky mix who was on Dog Death Row--she needed to get to San Antonio and since Nick and I were going there anyway, I volunteered us to take her to her new foster home. She's both unlucky and lucky--she had puppies, and lost them in a bad storm.  But, she is young, and though she has a few flea-bitten spots, tonight she's cozy and safe and will be cared for until she is well enough to be adopted.  That was fun, and very cool to do.  Feel-good stuff you know?

After dropping her off, we picked up our friend Shannon and headed back to Austin.  It is her birthday Monday so she picked to go to The Cheesecake Factory...so there we went. It was very good though I wish I'd chosen the lettuce wraps after all. Oh well.  A quick run-through the Barnes and Noble next store (my purchase--two British police procedurals), and then to downtown Austin.  We were lucky and snagged a great spot...then headed down to the infamous 6th Street.  Several blocks' worth of bars, dance clubs and pubs.  Egads, the kids, the 'ho-dressing (do their mama's know what they're yanking out of the closet? i wonder!) and guys with, well... with that scenery, you can imagine.  Geesh.

We ended up at this place, because they actually had live music.  Mike Milligan and the Altar Boyz.  Loud, but I enjoyed it--listened until the live show was over:

Been a long, long time since I just sat and listened to music--music loud enough to make my ears buzz.  LOL. Maybe will buy their cd--I liked them.  Sat and thought alot about my mystery-fic I am about to start.   :)   Pretty much could see my character in a place like that, maybe reluctantly at first (lol like me) but enjoying himself anyway.

After that, we headed back to the hotel, but had to try and find Shannon some liquor.  Too late for liquor store, we just made it to the grocery store in time to pick up some Smirnoff ice.  It's sitting over there--I had two drinks, it is 2:00 a.m., and I drove over 450 miles today...or rather, Saturday...I am done.

So, goodnight folks!

Oh Anthony?  I saw your note re: NANOWRIMO.  Count me on.  Yeah baby.  N will be back in Kiel, and I'll need that.

Too soon, Nick will be leaving.  I am not sure I like that at all.  Nope.  But always, we must march forward.  Sometimes it is just so damn hard.

Now, where'd I put my elephant...I am going to sleep, to the sounds of he and Shannon typing away on their laptops. LOL.  Oh well!

Carolyn

You're a good egg, Ms C, for helping a dog in need. Enjoy the rest of your current time with Nick!

Awww, good deeds for an adorable puppy!

I'm glad you are doing Nano. I had the seem thoughts--you'll need to throw yourself into writing. Just remember--you're not allowed to write a word in advance, so if you're doing the new fic, you have make yourself wait!

I just joined [livejournal.com profile] tongueofthemind for nanowrimo cheerleading and support. My friends from [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973 started it. It's for real fic or fanfic of all kinds, and they're aiming for a cozier feel than some of the huge nano comms out there. It would be a lot of fun to have you in it, too. I think I'm going to go do a 'what do I do for nano' post on my personal lj now...

you've just jogged my memory about NANOWRIMO. as soon as i saw that i thought "oh! -happy- and then oh! -upset- and then Oh God I Can't Do It Again!" haha.
i go through this every year but i'll still do it. i was going to do the full NaNo this year but i think i'll have to do the mini one again because we've just moved. i still don't have all the boxes unpacked and we're going to be tearing up the house to lay all new flooring, even in the bedrooms, so it's just too much.

something to think about anyway. good luck with your writing.

That lil dog is such a cutie! Makes me miss your critters!

A "quick" stop at Barnes & Noble? There IS such a thing? I deny that -- you are fabricating stories again.

Glad you had a good time with the music too!
