Tonight was one of those weird nights. Why weird? Nick went to bed before I got home. Never mind the 7 hour time difference...N still prefers to live on US time. But that means I am used to having N's company throughout my evenings, a marvelous thing, really. But N was tired, had a long day, and is going to Hamburg in the morning so needed to go to bed early. Ahem. On time.

I went shopping, therefore, alone. Usually, I have N checking in here and there, but not tonight...so I had to putter around on my own. I needed a Christmas party outfit. I wanted black jeans, which I found (Calvin's, lol), but then needed a top. I swear, I never saw so many red sweaters! I finally saw a fantastic grey, black, white and blue and turquoise(!) with the tiniest threads of green(!) jacket. 50% off, and it fit like a dream and all the sales ladies agreed it was perfect with the jeans. WHEE! Snagged a long-sleeve boatish-neck black shirt to wear under it. I love jackets on me--I should get more. I am going to feel great in that tomorrow night.

And here it is! Isn't it CUTE? And I have been informed my jeans are Skinny Jeans, which is Hot. *rolls eyes*

Had lots of time to ponder, this evening, especially as I drove to the Movie Tavern to fetch Tiff's mobile. She took the kids she babysits to the movies, and forgot it in the restroom when she was helping on eof the little girls, and couldn't get back to get it tonight. So me being the fantastic mom I am, I zoomed and got it. This gave me good thinking time in which to prepare my mind for my next scene. I am very happy to be back to working the way I used to. Stupid C, trying to change her ways...especially when they worked! Idiot.

I nearly stopped at B&N to snag Elizabeth Bear's new book. It concerns Valkyrie, but in an other-world setting. I've been researching the Valkyrie and am enamored of their connection to wolves. Some of you, anyway, know how much I adore wolves...heh. And yes, this research is for Wolfhunter.

Anyway--I looked like pure crap (my old Mavericks sweat shirt that is size XXXXXXL lol it is so huge, and my old sweats. Snort. Kinda uglyduckling to how I hope to look tomorrow. So I didn't go to the bookstore. Besides, I have something to read.

Am reading The Vampire Omnibus Mike suggested I get in order to bring me up to speed (as far as 1995 anyway) with the history of the vampire in fiction. Thus far, I am completely fascinated! The first story I read--possibly, probably, the first vampire story published in English (in a penny dreadful, by Elizabeth Grey, who is an intriguing figure in her own right), had such a fascinating creature in it (other than the vampire) that I couldn't help but be impressed. Each story is prefaced by an explanation of what role or point the particular story plays in vampire-fiction history.

By the time I'm done with this book, I'll feel the expert! Grin.

ANYTHEFREAKWAY... Tomorrow. Saturday. The Plan:

1. 6:30 a.m.: expected time of waking, thanks to Shelby's demanding woo's to go outside. Let her and the other two out.
2. 6:32 a.m.: back to bed for 30 minutes. There will be no sleeping, because I worry about Shelby digging out of the yard. Therefore...
3. 6:44 a.m.: get Shelby in, mutter and glare at kitchen sink's dishes, climb back into bed.
4. 6:46 a.m.: give up and get up, make bed.
5. 7:00 a.m.: check on Maddox, as he is allowed to stay outside w/out Shelby, take shower
6. 7:30 a.m.: fix light breakfast, fix fresh ice tea, throw ball for Maddox...make more fresh tea, and...
7. 9:00 a.m.: SIT BUTT DOWN IN CHAIR AND WRITE -- GOAL: 1500 words
8. 12 noon: Take Maddox on walk. I have ignored his needs way too much this week, due to Anthony's visit, and son's driver's ed. A husky like him needs lots of exercise, and he has been neglected and I can tell because he's been a real brat lately. So I figure a nice long walk will be good for both of us.
9. 1:00: SIT BUTT DOWN IN CHAIR AND WRITE -- GOAL: 1000 words
10. 3:00: NAPTIME!!!! Or, alternatively, NICK READS TO ME TIME!!!! Grin. Or both!
11. 5:00: get ready for Christmas party
12. 5:45: leave for Christmas party, TALK WITH NICK ON WAY!!!!
13. 6:30 to 8:30: Christmas party MISS NICK TERRIBLY! (cuz most will have dates/spouses/SO's there, and I won't have my partner there, not that anybody but Allan and his SO knows N is my partner, grin...)
14: 8:32 TALK TO NICK AGAIN!!!!!
14. 9:00: BACK HOME YAY!!!!!
15. 10:00: CRASH!!!!!

END OF DAY!!!
2500 words for Saturday therefore is the goal for tomorrow. That's pretty low, really--each night this week at B&N, in just over an hour I got at least 1000 words, one night got almost 2k. I am thrilled with how easily this book is coming so far...happily, in going back over what I wrote all week, I am pleased with it. It is not utter crap--just sorta crap. There is hope for sorta crap!

And now, I am retiring to bed.

Goodnight, all...

P.S. I said 'mobile.' I really did. Ohmygosh. TORCHWOOD HAS STOLEN MY BRAIN!

Oh Good morning!

This Omnibus is really marvelous. It was published in the UK in 1995. A Brit friend suggested I find it and did so easily--took forever to get here though. Elizabeth Grey, the author of this story though, was married to a Edward Lloyd who was a leading publisher of the penny dreadfuls. She'd been his secretary, started to edit the stories, then write them herself when installments failed to arrive by their authors. She eventually wrote several novels. The penny dreadful's name was The Casket, which eventually played host to many other vampire stories.

I am fascinated by Elizabeth!

8:28 and my dogs didn't get me up until 8:00. They've ruined my careful schedule!
