Finally, I have a moment to post some exciting news. Well, at least to me. I have my airplane tickets to Germany! And...to London! Woot!
It is always hard, these between-times, when Nick and I have to be in a bit of limbo concerning our next chance to be together again. We got fairly spoiled in 2008, to tell the truth--two visits by Nick here to Texas, six weeks and a wonderful 3 months. Heaven. Sheer heaven.
We had so much fun. We traveled, saw friends, just lived and loved like two normal people. Okay, sorta normal...who wants to be normal, after all? Not me. Did that for way too long.
Eventually though, the good times had to end. Or rather, as I prefer to think of it in order to keep sane...it was time for Nick to return to Germany to write his thesis, and continue to add more knowledge to his already shiny brilliance.
So, when the day finally came we were able to cement plans for our next encounter...needless to say, given it has been MONTHS since we fought over covers, we were ecstatic!
It actually paid off, the wee delay--my tickets plunged in price. Only $1035, instead of a whopping $1400-something. Wow. Our tickets to LRH were a little more, but dealing with the Euro, it was to be expected.
So. I now am the happy bearer of a round-trip (okay, sigh on that) trip to Hamburg, Germany via Newark, NJ. That's different--usually I touch down in either London or Frankfurt. And yeah--sad about that, as I really want to meet
catsintheattic. Pout.
Trip will be July 2nd through the 16th. I'll touch down in Hamburg at 7:30, meet up with Nick, then lol we hop on another plane and head for London Heathrow.
We have a hotel in London for one night--close to the West End. Unfortunately, Jodie is not in that night's episode of Oliver! but of course there is Burn Gorman to enjoy! Not sure what we will do. Should have time though.
Next morning, back to the airport to pick up the rental. And yes, I am driving--and it has to be an automatic. Any advice from Americans or others who are used to the steering wheel on the left who have driven in England is appreciated. It is also an automatic. Never driven stick in my life. We're looking at a Ford Focus. Roar.
Then, the real adventure begins as I carefully navigate my way out of the car rental place, trying not to panic. Will then head for...CARDIFF!
We have a lovely bed and breakfast,Ti Rosa* Tŷ Rosa, where we have reservations. Fortunately, we got them early as there is a big cricket match going on that weekend. Yikes! We shall see lads in shorts! I hope anyway.
While in Cardiff, being Doctor Who and Torchwood fans, well...you can guess what we will do a bit of. Nick also fancies, uh, looking around to see if we can see John Barrowman and his partner...hmm. Silly boy.
The rest of the time we will be adventuring. We both love to do walkabouts (even if we've yet to visit Australia...someday?) so plan to go North and investigate all that we can during the days we have. At least one serious hike in the Brecon Beacons is planned. I did serious hiking (and camping and stuff) when I was a kid-teenager...but then, well, did that marriage thing...and those good times were over.
Going to Wales was Nick's idea, but one I have embraced completely. Through Nick, I've fallen in love with its spell...I absolutely will treasure forever the chance to go there and see all these things we've been reading about, talking about, for these past months.
I absolutely am ecstatic about this part of my trip with Nick.
The rest of my time with Nick will be in Germany at his flat, maybe tromping around Hamburg a bit--I really want SEVERAL currywurst! I MEAN IT THIS TIME!
I really do. Growl.
C, hoping that some of y'all have been or live in the UK and can give us tips! Bring it on!
