I had the wild urge to take out the trash (side of the house) and when I came back, I noticed a pesky vine had done its best to strangle my water hose. I decided to free the poor thing. Reached down, and screeched!

This little beastie stared up at me, daring me to disturb its home...finding my courage, I disturbed it instead. It is, according to my google search, a Great Horned Caterpillar, of which there is a wide variety of colors and types. He was the only one I saw there and I am trying to resist the urge to keep him until he changed into the moth he is destined to come. Isn't he cute? And actually--the horn is the back side. It is not poisonous, but I chose not to touch. Too many memories of asp caterpillar stings when I was little.

Isn't it scary looking?

How about that devilish horn:

My finger looks oddly puffy here but it gives an idea of how big he is:

These pictures were taken with my new mobile phone. Not bad, not bad. New camera will be here tomorrow. Whee!

Will leave bright and very early a week from tomorrow. The daughter is my escort to the airport. I'll be pretty much packing this weekend...laundry to do, suitcase to organize. I'll be taking a small one this time, my son's. There is no reason to take a big one this time. Since the second week will be in Kiel, I'll be able to wash when we get there from Wales.  I'll be toting Cyberman (the laptop) too. Last time I went, I dragged my now-dead laptop everywhere, and used it I think once.  We were a bit busy...  But we're going to TRY to share our adventures regularly. Try.

I am preparing myself to fall absolutely in love with Cardiff. Living a landlocked life as I do, life next to any big body of water is mysterious and exciting. As are mountains. Nick is used to the sea, but I'm not. My exposure to oceans primarily consists of flying over them. But really, just exploring a city I've never been to, with Nick--who also has never been there? This is going to be fabulous. Everywhere else we've been so far, one or the other of us had some knowledge. We take turns taking care of each other, in other words...but this time, there won't be anyone to hold our hands. We're on our own! Yikes!

At least, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] smirnoff, I know how to pump gas. Petrol. Sorry! All advice welcome, btw...we're as prepare as we can be, which means of course we are bound to make fools of ourselves one way or the other as we bumble about. LOL.

That is a big caterpillar!
Hope you and Nick have a great time.
Since I grew up by one of the Great Lakes, and lived on an island, you'd think I'd be all blah, but I do love water.
It just annoys me when people buy up all the property so I can't see it.
