Everything is better today.

Sadly, yes, I did have to put a fierce foot down with MIL, but it seems to have worked (after she cried more about how we misunderstood her. My son said, "She knows exactly what she was doing and it was driving me CRAZY"). She is back to previous behavior, which is how I like her, so either she's given up, or she is scheming quietly behind the scenes...

I did lose the car rental tussle, somehow--to the tune of 72 British pounds aka 120ish USD. Supposedly the WAT charges were handled incorrectly BACK IN JULY so they decided to fix it in October (which the dispute started). Now, they really jacked me around alot back in July, taking out extra money the next day, then three days later putting it back. Seriously messed up, considering I supposedly paid for the car back in April.

What I would prefer to do next time is go to the UK, spend some days in London, train to Cardiff, then rent the damn car there. Would that work better? I do not know, but my gosh, by the time all was said and done, that damn car DID cost me almost 500 dollars...but I did have it for a week and we didn't even use two tanks despite all our driving around. So maybe that isn't too bad. Just MESSY.

But happy news is that the insurance company for the person whose truck hit my daughter's car has accepted full responsibility, and I can pick up the rental in the morning. YES! Now her car will get fixed, and hopefully quickly, and we can get on with things. This carpooling we've been having to do has been a real pain.

It is a sad fact that when things are going in my life as they have been, that I go wonky too. Sigh. I worry too much over things, and that freezes up the creativity like nothing else does. Hopefully, things will be a wee bit smoother now, for the next several months--I just need NO SURPRISES for awhile, you know? Just calm, boring life would be in most welcome.

Hopefully/should get our raises and Christmas bonus next week--I sure hope so. Should. We also have our Christmas party on the 19th. I will be going alone once again, my partner with me only in spirit. Sometimes, I really really hate the distance between us. It should be a good time though. Texas de Brazil and, lol, a play, some Christmasy play at the Circle Theatre. Never been as it's no West End or Broadway, but am looking forward to that. Our crazy admin is not going, so we should have a great time. LOL!!!

Oh, also got my killer new computer, and my dual monitors set up today. Took FOUR HOURS to get all the programs and such situated--I did it all myself, almost, though we had to do some remote stuff too. They now have a lovely background picture taken by [livejournal.com profile] heleninwales who takes pictures along hikes and such in, you guessed it, Wales, and some really amazing pictures she takes, too. (Helen, I now have the rainbow/woolly sheep one as my backgrounds on the two monitors). Just awesome pics make me long to go back to Wales. Which I will do, next spring, early summerish. (Unknown when just yet).

My son swears we're going to get more snow overnight, and thus have a snow day tomorrow, and no school. LOL. Silly boy. Just checked, there will be snow, and we are included (but barely) in the snow advisory area, but not by much. If we do get any it will be like yesterday--pretty, but not dramatic.

And speaking of Wales...Nick is off to visit Cardiff again in just a few weeks. Has to see John Barrowman's panto, you know! Am sad though, as he'll be staying at Ty Rosa again. This time alone, though, but I've no doubt the guys at Ty Rosa will take care of him. GRIN.

Me? I'll be stuck here. Again! Hopefully though, NEXT time Nick heads for the UK, I'll be meeting him there. (Unless of course John Barrowman does something else exciting Nick wants to see, before I can save up the ridiculous air fare to get there).

Night kids--going to read for awhile before sleep (a strange new habit that has developed) and happily anticipate tomorrow and getting that rental, and having a very nice and hopefully productive day at work (because I sure wasn't productive today!).

I will not write RPS involving friends and the hospitality industry. WILL NOT! Heh.

Glad things with the daughter and the MIL are resolving well, and fie on the rental car thing. Grargh.

I will visit the Ianto shrine and uh ... "pay my respects" and all. It'll be good.

That said, I'm on my own in Cardiff on New Year's -- what could possibly go wrong.

Happy to hear that things are settling down for you. I am the same way - when my life starts to go to pieces, so do I. Funny, that. (Sadly, I feel like my life's been going to pieces for years. It's really only been a few months, but...) It's exhausting and draining, so I hope it's calm and normal for you for a nice long time.

It's been a crazy week or two, hasn't it! Glad things seem to be settling down. Our company Christmas party is the 12th, but it's just a sort of "three hour cocktail hour with a small band playing" sort of thing.

I need to page back and see what I missed about your MIL being crazy. Leave it to Son to call it what it is, though! Good for him!

I'm glad things are settling down for you. I know exactly what you mean about problems completely squashing the creative spark. I either yesterday or today because of very minor things happening that are out of the ordinary.

I'm sure Nick will love John Barrowman in panto. I saw him in Jack and the Beanstalk a few years ago and he was brilliant. :)

I hope the sheep/rainbow picture looks ok blown up large on a desktop. I think I took that with my phone camera.
