Yuletide reveal was today! My own fic I wrote for
emily_shore is located here: Piano e forte.
Thanks of a special heart-felt kind go to
misswinterhill for her most excellent beta, and for calling me on my laziness, suggesting I deepen the emotions in key spots. THANK YOU JENNY!!! And also thank you
51stcenturyfox aka Foxy for going over it for me too and making sure my last-minute tweaks didn't produce problems (as they often do).
Writing this fic had an unexpected impact on me. Choosing to throw myself across the train tracks by changing--literally within the last hour--the fandoms I would be happy to write for was the best thing I could've done. I felt so sorry for those fandoms with hardly anyone seemingly interested in writing for them, so thought what the heck, why not? I can't tell you (okay I already did in an earlier post) how happy I was to get Benjamin Britten as my subject. First, he was a real person, and I have no problem at all writing about real people (obviously), and he had a real-life partner, Peter Pears. Canon RPS!
My recipient was very helpful in providing a bunch of wonderful information about these two amazing musicians, but what tickled me most of all were the letters they sent to each other over the years. Emily took the time to type them up and post them, and I am very grateful she did as being able to read about their relationship in their own words provided unique insight. My biggest problem with writing this fic was deciding on WHAT to write. I changed my mind many times, and then when I started to write, Benjamin took over (which is what I love about writing in first person, dammit my evil editor for hating first) and the fic was done in no time at all. And, was not what I expected. LOL.
These two were such romantics! And I thought Nick and I were smooshy... Give me a kiss! The letters, if you would like to read them, are located here on my recipient's Dreamwidth account: Letters 1940-42 and Letters 1940-42
My own list of fandoms I wanted was pretty quirky. The fandom on my list that came up was The Lion King. Yup, Simba, Timon, Puumba and... WAIT! NO! Those are not who I wanted to read about, I wanted to read about about the best character in the movie who didn't get NEAR enough screen-time. NALA!
mjules did an absolutely beautiful job capturing just how one would imagine Nala would be. Seeing her side of the story behind Lion King was a real treat. I hope you guys will take the time to read it--I promise, if you were ever a fan of Lion King, you'll enjoy this to bits. All the Lonely Moments
I have one recc I have to make, then up this post finally goes (coding these links is such a pain!)
This amazing fic, Falling Down (The Authority fandom) was written by the amazingly talented
smirnoffmule. There is no need to know anything about this fandom--I don't--because the way Smirnoff crafts the tale makes it stand quite well on its own. He has such an amazing, satisfying way with words. He can take the smallest of moment and make it rich with meaning and detail, and has such a lovely knack with making characters come alive--oh, I envy his talent for this! So yes, you must go read Smirnoff's Yuletide, and spread more love. :)
This was going to be longer with other things that are going on, but lol I started working on this HOURS ago. It really is enough for one night, I think!
