Journal Love

I love this lj. I do. I love Nick for helping me make it beautiful. I can't believe how little I post these days. Am I that busy? Truly? Too busy to sit down and tap something out real quick, read my flist?

Well, sorta.

So, with that in mind and inspired by N's doing it, I have cleaned my flist, nuking a bunch of stuff I just don't have time for. I took a few people off too. As I was doing so, I paused over dear Karen's, realizing that she will now be on here forever, though she is gone. I left her friended, though there will be no more posts. I always smile when I think of her. She was some kind of special.

I have recently added a few folks, some of my fellow Seaside friends. Heya there, kiddos!

And now, I am yawning and think I am going to curl up and read awhile. Finishing up THE QUEEN'S FOOL by Philippa Gregory. Damn, I like her writing. Totally unlike what I ever thought I'd like--a happy accident. Next up though is a book called THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak. Nick is reading it too. I think he still is, anyway.

Oh, he is home from walking over the new bridge in Germany. Too cool. So now I must trot off--time to play!

Ooh, that is a good book! First one I read by her, and I'm glad it was. The Other Boleyn Girl and her other books are good as well, but Queen's Fool has a special place in my heart.

Oh yay! You understand! That is great! It almost borders on fantasy and I just LOVE Hannah. Everything about her--the kind of person she is, her past, the intrigue, her visions...just ahhh. It is one of the books that I have the "oh, I wish I'd written that!" thing going. I read The Other Boleyn Girl first, then got this one, and next after Book Thief, another of Gregory's.

Phillipa Gregory is really a very good historical fiction writer. I haven't read QF, but I've read her other Tudor-inspired fic and was suitably impressed.

Ohhhh you should read that one, I insist! You must! It is during Mary's brief reign, so of course there is alot of Elizabeth in there. I'm often diving into Wikipedia to see the facts behind her fiction. She plays alot with the facts especially in regards to the children born-not-born and some time period switching but basically not enough for me to quibble with.

I love that she writes in first person, I love her women characters, the way she handles the politics, the pacing is excellent and oh the time period itself is of course endlessly fascinating. I have The Boleyn Inheritance to read after I read the one N and I are reading. I will likely end up with all of Gregory's books read and on the shelf--hopefully only the first two will have puppy teeth marks on them. LOL.
