Wow, didn't realize it'd been two weeks since I'd posted. And since I am at work, I really don't have time to post much. So, I will do a recap of the last two weeks!
- Work--been pure hell, due to a seriously effed-up project over which one person quit, and the big boss up in Topeka went ballistic. And stayed ballistic. Is still ballistic. Carolyn (and Adam) saved the project, but no one thanks us, oh no... Though my own boss has been awesome throughout. He nodded his head and encouraged me inbetween my fits of ranting and threatening to quit, jump off the building, go to lunch and never return... He never takes me seriously for some reason. LOL.
- Dropped out of hd_inspired due to #1 and #3, which is...
- Nick is here in 2.5 weeks. I am not ready. Not really. My house isn't anyway, though Nick could care less about the house, I would like to at least start off somewhat more organizing than I am. For three months N will be a part of the family, my quirky little family. :) I am very happy, though sad too--we won't get to talk during the day like we do now. LOL! But there is always lunchtime!
It is sad about #2, as I do like the story I'd started, but the reality is, I should've known something would happen to make devoting enough time to writing and finishing that impossible. It was a wild hair (of stupidity). And besides, have other writing which is happening, and will be devoting self to from hereon out. And, finally, FINALLY, Seaside is rocking for me again...or about to. LOL.
My fascination with Shakespeare and his times continue. Mostly, the times in which he lived. Been reading (ever too slowly, due to #1 above) the dissertation I found regarding the Boy Players. Now that I am getting my brain back, and I do mean that seriously as the last two weeks have been the toughest I've ever had at work, the little bits of all I've been reading (prior to #1) are gelling into a story. Sunday, therefore, since N will be busy with his German girl friend (and that is two words, mind you, lol), will be Stage day. Working title, yes, is Stage.
Been listening to a lot of podcasts--just finished listening to the George R.R. Martin one--maybe he needs to listen to them himself? He gives alot of advice that I don't see happening for himself...like everyone, I'm starting to worry. Surely, a Robert Jordan won't happen to our beloved series...but EIGHT YEARS???? Okay I know he's doing tons of other stuff, but I DON'T CARE! LOL. Sigh. Sucks.
Television show fun. Oh Nick and I are watching too much tv, but it has been perfect during #1 above. Our current watches are:
How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? This is a Canadian production, and the sole reason we are watching is due to this man:
Yes, that is Nick's current crush, and a mighty fine one he is, John Barrowman. (Never mind that Mr. Barrowman is quite domestic-partnered up, and never mind that N is mine--lol). Now, when Nick and I first learned about John Barrowman, it was through TORCHWOOD. Lo and behold, though, there is much, much more to this man than just a telly show. Mr. Barrowman is, well... EVERYWHERE!!!! It is nuts, simply nuts, what this man has his fingers into. Which of course leads to lots of things to watch. The Maria show is fun because he is one of the judges, and is very passionate about what he does, about theatre, etc. It is fun to watch, and we are both enjoying watching the Maria wannabe's duke it out. We were both sad though to see a favorite go this week, darn it. Argh. Just as long as Jayme as the weird lips doesn't win... But I think we all know that Janna will be the next Maria. If she isn't, I will be surprised.
This newfound interest in musicals has led to my creating a list of musicals we need to watch while N is here: Sound of Music of course, Cabaret, Oklahoma (ha ha maybe...Nick may groan over that), West Side Story, The Producers, uh...maybe others. We will see.
In any case, Mr. Barrowman and the Daily Facts is very much a part of our lives these days. :)
What else?
Oh, Doctor Who of course--though now we are on break. Boo hiss. I still laugh that I ended up enjoying this so much. But I have, and I have that Shakespeare addiction to thank it for.
Torchwood--rewatching, cuz I watched out of order, and way too fast.
So You Think You Can Dance. Why are we watching this? Because Joshua graduated with my daughter, so he is a hometown boy and we must root for him. Which is easy to do, because he is so damn good. But we're just enjoying the show as a whole.
And of course there is John Simm love going on as well. Current watch: The Lakes. It is making me mad though as I do not like to see Simm be treated badly.
Other shows we've watched and loved: State of Play (Simm and David Morrissey, who I adore...), Life on Mars (Simm), Blackpool (Tennant and Morrissey). Those are my favorites, really. Also, Criminal Minds, though not done yet (though of course is American television).
There is just something simply marvelous about British television. Really. And talk shows--I have laughed so much since we started in on those, like the Friday Night Project. The others are rolling around in my head--I do not seem to have N's phenomenal memory for show names, but maybe that is why I have N? LOL. My personal memory card.
So...
Just a couple more weeks to go, and N will be back. Kicking Claire (my springer) out of my bed, Shelby onto the floor...poor puppies...taking over my laptop, leaving his stuff all over my bathroom, cuddling in the morning... WHEE!
I can't wait.
I really do need to clean house first though. And maybe, just maybe, plant a few flowers. Yeah.

Date: 2008-07-17 08:34 pm (UTC)And I am so grinning that you and your spousal unit are fans of Doctor Who. The Shakespeare Code--that is what caused my LoveFest for Shakespeare, which led me to studying late Elizabethan times, which led me to the boy players, to the dissertation, to the story...historical fantasy. Stage. :) WOO!!!!

Date: 2008-07-17 04:19 pm (UTC)Also, glad to see another So You Think You Can Dance fan on my flist! I'm never able to pick a favorite but Joshua is amazing. My sis and I bond over this show and it's definitely a summertime favorite of mine!

Date: 2008-07-17 08:36 pm (UTC)First saw Joshua at the Senior Talent Show--needless to say, everyone adores him. He was AMAZING--he can make his body move in ways that seem just impossible!!!
I love Twitch though too--gosh. Man oh man. That bed dance. WHOA... LOL.

Date: 2008-07-17 08:49 pm (UTC)And Twitch! I loved the bed dance and also his solo from a couple weeks back (the crazy orchestra conductor one). I actually think the all the guys far outshine the girls this year (with the exception of Katee).
That must have been such fun to see Joshua dance in person. That's my biggest problem with SYTYCD -- I want to watch it more from a audience-stage perspective than an edited tv version. I end up yelling for the camera-man to HOLD STILL at least once an episode!
Wonder who will be going home tonight... :-(

Date: 2008-07-17 08:57 pm (UTC)But then I am into the whole modern ballet/contemporary thing so yeah - much love for that.
And for Joshua of course. And Mark. I like Mark. And Twitch. And yeah, the boys in general, really, but no surprise there.

Date: 2008-07-17 06:48 pm (UTC)it is insanity! but it still made me feel happy when you said she would probably win...even though i have yet to watch it.

Date: 2008-07-17 08:40 pm (UTC)Janna is going to win. I will be very shocked if she does not--of the ones left, though I think Marisa would be great fun, she will not beat Janna. She is as Mr. Barrowman (or one of them) said, the complete package. Simon said that I think. But JB would work with her anytime, he said--I think that is huge. She has the look, the devotion, the voice (except for that awful California Dreaming, but NO ONE should sing that but Mamma Cass, folks), and if she can remember not to squinch her eyes... LOL. Is she my favorite? No--Elicia is actually--but Janna is so right for this role and Elicia, well... Loud and dancy booming productions like Cabaret--definitely. Definitely!
So cheer your home town folks on--it reminds me of when Kelly Clarkson, who is from here, was doing her thing--I sure hope to see more Joshua Joshua around soon, but not so far, except those from Tiff's school.
Nick has not seen Sound of Music--I have seen it gazillions of times. :) It is fun to sing the annoying songs to him. LOL!!!

Date: 2008-07-17 08:33 pm (UTC)Coincidence--my sister in Tenn. and I both have dogs named Shelby and Claire. Our Claires came named--hers is a Collie from a rescue organization...but both our Shelby girls happen to be Siberian Huskies. Although, we are convinced her Shelby has something else in her, because unlike mine, her Shelby Refuses To Leave and Loves Cats. She was found in a field by my sister's SO and daughter.
The weeks from hell are over. I am done as done can be, and just went with Stephnie to Subway to get cookies. YAY!!!! Cookie love!
Yes, YAY!!! Very different visit this time, though, as Nick will be interning.

Date: 2008-07-18 02:00 am (UTC)LOL.
We still have to watch last night's, and the result show, though my daughter is watching it so I kinda know who is in the bottom. I closed my door though so I couldn't hear who is out. LOL. Katee will win for the girls, dang it...
Nick is so much fun, since he's the one REALLY into all this. Especially John Barrowman. CRUSH!!! But I don't mind. LOLOL. He is super sexy!!!!!

Date: 2008-07-18 07:46 am (UTC)Instead, I'll squee with you for N coming to your place again so soon! Yay! *throws confetti* I'm looking forward to meeting him at the airport, too. :-)
So, the notes you sent me about your story are still valid? I remember another email in which you said that you had a new idea and I though that you meant a totally different one. *blushes in shame* Because, if they are still valid, I still owe you an email. OMG! Tell me how stupid I am! No, scratch that. :-) Just, please, forgive me and be ready to accept my apology as well as a belated answer in the course of the next week.
*big puppy eyes*
