Okay...

As some of you know, that darn vampire kit has lodged into my mind and will not let go. The big problem with this thing, is that I am not a vampire fan, and so know very little about the creatures.

I like them well enough...I am absolutely in love with Bill (TRUE BLOOD) for instance, but I never watched Angel (I might though--but then again, maybe I won't so I won't be influenced by him lol), I wallbanged Twilight (is Edward REALLY a vampire? I wonder), I've not read anything but Interview with a Vampire and not sure that counts...okay so I did read Dracula years ago, but I assume times have changed, and, well, vampirism is something I've never really sunk my teeth into.

It will NOT be a romance, TYVM. My POV is not going to fall into the arms of her dark love...uh...no thanks.

So...

What do YOU guys like in your vampires? And dislike, too--like sparkles. Sparkly vampires do not do a thing for me.

I admit, I'm a sucker for sparkly vampires.* In my own vampires, I do the Anne Rice preternatural shine and jewel-like eyes. But really, I accept any of the vampire tropes, and I like seeing imaginative stuff. I remember one of Tor's romances had vampires who were parasites that wrapped themselves around the host's brain. Not exactly sexy, but I thought it was cool.

I guess I can think of some pet peeves:
Vampires who have been present at every single big historic event and knew every famous person.
The "woe, I must drink blood to survive!" is old.
And yes, most every vampire romance trope, though that doesn't stop it from being a secret indulgence.

I'd like to see more radical stuff done with vampires: alternate history, secondary world fantasy. (Not too much, though, since I want to monopolize it when I get published.)

* What bugged me about Twilight's vampires was that they forced themselves to live "normal" lives, meaning their centenarian "children" were stuck going to high school for eternity. Talk about hell on earth.

AHH I thought that very strange too! HIGH SCHOOL? WTH, why??? LOL.

Preternatural shine is not why Edward is sparkly, I hope... I can buy the first, not the latter. I gave my half-read copy of Twilight to my co worker, Juan--he loved the movie.

I admit, my little steampunker friends make me consider a steampunkish world..

Secondary world fantasy. What do you mean? :)

So, can vampires have Starbucks then? TRUE BLOOD's vamps survive on blood--or True Blood, of course. What do you like to see?

Specifically, I mean the angst over having to drink blood/kill to survive. Get over it, that's what I say.

A secondary world is one completely made up and independent of our world. (As opposed to portal fantasy, like Narnia, Oz, etc.) Stuff like Wheel of Time, Song of Ice and Fire.

So why is he sparkly? I haven't read the books, I just know they don't go out in sunlight because they sparkle. (Why don't they use, I don't know, makeup?)

My mantra--GET OVER IT! LOL.

Oh okay...now, I am not a Jordan fan, but GRRM of course, yes...

I do not know why he sparkles, because I wallbanged the book. I just think cuz it makes him pretty or something. LOL.
