My sister Leslie who lives in Nashville had an accident this weekend. She'd gone to her office Christmas party, and somehow, upon leaving to wait for Robert (her SO), she either fell, was pushed, was mugged, tripped, somehow...she doesn't know, as she does not remember. She hit, hard, fracturing her shoulder and smashing her left eye socket to smithereens. She is, she says, lucky to be alive. She remembers leaving the party, and waking up to paramedics pulling her out of bushes. She has no memory of anything else.

To say I am devastated for her is an understatement. She is the breadwinner of the family, she and Robert have a 12 year old daughter who has been through a rough patch herself, Robert's dad is dying, and now this. Thank heavens her boss and co-workers are there for her 100%. She's already had one surgery, likely to have another--her left eye is sewn shut while it heals and she can barely see out of the other one. The hurt one, it should be okay, eventually. Fortunately she had her glasses, not contacts, on.

Leslie is my favorite of my two sisters. She's the one who I can tell anything--and have. She's the one who batted nary an eyelash when I told her about Nick's entrance into my life. For her to be hurt like this, seriously hurt, and not know what happened is very scary.

My other sister just called asking for Leslie's numbers so is going to see how she's doing and if she can do anything for her. Good.

Leslie says she looks scary as hell, like she was beat up. I swear she was and her memory is just shut down about that. She almost rather that than something neurological. She just turned fifty but is one of those Nifty Fifty people--she runs, she explores, she climbs, she adventures...she is worried this is going to steal her hard-won health. Dammit I wish I lived closer. Damn damn damn.

Tonight's word count, fueled by I don't know what--just joy over writing again on something I've loved for so long, I think--popped me over 10,000 words. 1,740 for tonight. No complaining about that. I'm going to make regular wordcount posts though--think that is part and parcel of partcipation in [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout.

Got three warm bodies willing to listen to me ramble about my writing in locked posts...that rocks, and will be helpful to me, I think. I hope. Anyone else is welcome too--I just don't want open posts for specific things. That starts in January though...in the meantime, and actually, right now I think I'll go to bed and read.

And, think about my sister. Dammit. This sucks, so freaking much. Merry Christmas, Leslie, Lexie and Robert. Sigh.

It sucks, doesn't it? I want to kill the bastard that maybe caused this. LOL. Leslie doesn't think she was attacked but since she can't remember, I have to have SOMETHING to be angry at, right?!

Yikes. My thoughts are with her. She's lucky there's no big, obvious neuro. Wishes to her for a speedy, full recovery.

Yeah. They said it would be a week or so before they could even begin to rule out that what caused her to black out was neurological or not. I prefer the bad guy involvement, frankly. She doesn't seem to be impaired though, which is good news. She even went to a meeting yesterday, though everyone freaked out--lol--she wanted to get out for awhile, already stir-crazy. She can't see well, so is stuck listenign to things...so I am sending her an itunes gift card, enough to download a book.

Yes ma'am. I can't believe I broke 10,000 last night. This is unreal, truly.

I guess writing what you are best at really is a good idea. *makes note to STOP FIGHTING THE MUSES!!!*

A couple years ago, my dad had an accident. He was mountain biking -- not on a highly technical trail or anything, just a mild one -- and he somehow tipped over and broke his neck. Major nerve damage, induced coma for a few days, looong recovery. All I can offer is that I know how hard it is when a loved one is injured and you're so very far away (4 hours by plane), and that the power of the human body to heal itself is amazing.

Wishing you all well while you get through this.

Thanks, it is frustrating. My sister and I--lol--we grew up fighting, but after our mom died we both woke up and realized that we had alot more reasons to get along than not. Then, when Nick came into my life...she was so freaking awesome about everything, so accepting, that that sealed the deal. Our oldest sister would do anythign for us too, but is too different-- A good example? She is hard-core republican, we are most definitely not. Oy.

I hope so too, this sucks. She said it is so weird to have that big blank spot. She has a big ol' patch over her left eye--has to wear that at least two weeks before they will unstitch her eye

Yes, she was. Wasn't touched, nothing stolen. If she was in fact attacked, they're thinking the perp was scared off. That so far seems to be the #1 explanation, because of the force of the impact. She hit hard enoughto do that much damage to her eye, and fracture her shoulder. Leslie is tall, but like me is a strong person.

She is extremely glad to be alive. I didn't get to talk to her at all yesterday, so hopefully today. My other sister got to though and she is convinced Leslie was attacked, too.

Leslie just doesn't know! Her boss (an attorney) is in investigative mode though--she adores him--and is determined to gather all the facts he can.

I need to start reading my friends page more diligently. I'm so sorry to hear about this -- you know your sister will be in my prayers.

Are we supposed to already be writing for "getyourwords out?" I haven't even thought about that, as I figured "hey, it's for 2009 ..."
