My sister Leslie who lives in Nashville had an accident this weekend. She'd gone to her office Christmas party, and somehow, upon leaving to wait for Robert (her SO), she either fell, was pushed, was mugged, tripped, somehow...she doesn't know, as she does not remember. She hit, hard, fracturing her shoulder and smashing her left eye socket to smithereens. She is, she says, lucky to be alive. She remembers leaving the party, and waking up to paramedics pulling her out of bushes. She has no memory of anything else.

To say I am devastated for her is an understatement. She is the breadwinner of the family, she and Robert have a 12 year old daughter who has been through a rough patch herself, Robert's dad is dying, and now this. Thank heavens her boss and co-workers are there for her 100%. She's already had one surgery, likely to have another--her left eye is sewn shut while it heals and she can barely see out of the other one. The hurt one, it should be okay, eventually. Fortunately she had her glasses, not contacts, on.

Leslie is my favorite of my two sisters. She's the one who I can tell anything--and have. She's the one who batted nary an eyelash when I told her about Nick's entrance into my life. For her to be hurt like this, seriously hurt, and not know what happened is very scary.

My other sister just called asking for Leslie's numbers so is going to see how she's doing and if she can do anything for her. Good.

Leslie says she looks scary as hell, like she was beat up. I swear she was and her memory is just shut down about that. She almost rather that than something neurological. She just turned fifty but is one of those Nifty Fifty people--she runs, she explores, she climbs, she adventures...she is worried this is going to steal her hard-won health. Dammit I wish I lived closer. Damn damn damn.

Tonight's word count, fueled by I don't know what--just joy over writing again on something I've loved for so long, I think--popped me over 10,000 words. 1,740 for tonight. No complaining about that. I'm going to make regular wordcount posts though--think that is part and parcel of partcipation in [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout.

Got three warm bodies willing to listen to me ramble about my writing in locked posts...that rocks, and will be helpful to me, I think. I hope. Anyone else is welcome too--I just don't want open posts for specific things. That starts in January though...in the meantime, and actually, right now I think I'll go to bed and read.

And, think about my sister. Dammit. This sucks, so freaking much. Merry Christmas, Leslie, Lexie and Robert. Sigh.

Thanks, it is frustrating. My sister and I--lol--we grew up fighting, but after our mom died we both woke up and realized that we had alot more reasons to get along than not. Then, when Nick came into my life...she was so freaking awesome about everything, so accepting, that that sealed the deal. Our oldest sister would do anythign for us too, but is too different-- A good example? She is hard-core republican, we are most definitely not. Oy.
