I never thought 11,271 words could be so exhausting, but it is DONE! It is a crossover fic, Being Human and Torchwood, Andy being my character of choice, of course. (Some know my Fear of Writing Jack and Ianto--shiver!!! No thanks!). But George of BH is the POV character, and it is his story. I hope I get some readers. It is my first fic posted in what feels like years...IS years, because I don't count the 2 HP fics I did. I am not a fan of HP so didn't care much, just did those because someone asked me to. Of course someone asked me to do this, too, and I balked until I saw the 'anyfandom' prompts. Grin. Then I said, "Okay!"
I've posted it in my
into_officeboys lj and of course
lgbtfest 's journal. I missed my posting day by one day, but that is okay. They're very gentle regarding posting, granting amnesty days for those who simply aren't done on time. Just go to that if you are interested...its not like I have anything else in there! It was nice to finally use that LJ properly.
Tomorrow (uh, today) I plan to post it in Andy-centric TW comms, and will be hunting down Being Humans as well.
I loved writing this fic. As a (former) anti-canon writer, I found it freakily hellaciously FUN to write a character (George) for whom there is a complicated canon in place. I know so much about him, yet there is so much I "don't* know...basic things, like who his parents are, does he have siblings, what did he hope for in life after he finished his studies...he was so close to being done, then WHAM! Sigh. Poor George
I love his inner struggles with being a werewolf (which he actually calls It or the wolf, as if it were a separate being inhabiting his body though by no means in peaceful co-existence). Most werewolf stories I've read the terrible self-hatred (or wolf-hatred) doesn't exist, or play such a major role as does with George. He is a tragic character who craves control and order in his life, but thanks to the wolf, he can't have control and order at all. It tears him apart, and I love it.
In another note, I find myself becoming a bit aggravated over the critical complaints I've seen regarding the Star Trek movie. I realize not everyone goes into seeing this movie (ahh, now I want to write film, not movie) with the history I have--an original fan, very much around when the show was first being aired in syndication on the television--but for me, the writer(s) of this movie did a fantastic job of staying as true as they possibly could to what made the first series special. So, that being said, I hope those of you who might read the reviews that are critical of this or that, Uhura wearing a short skirt still, okay yeah so I see LOTS of short skirts around me these days, and quite more flesh than two well-shaped legs, and not every woman in that cast wore short uniforms--hell, if I looked like Uhura I would too! She looked fantastic! She was HOT! Hot and smart and damn savvy... LOL Ahem...I hope you will give the movie a chance, and go to see it with the bright shiny enthusiasm and hope that the original creator, Gene Roddenberry, was trying to foster in a time when peace and hope and love and understanding was sorely needed and wanted but so very hard to find. Ahhh, the '60's!!!
I frankly think Gene Roddenberry would've been pleased with this, especially with seeing the message of Star Trek continue on with new generations. (except maybe he'd scratch his head a bit re: that one companion of Scotty's, but...he WAS funny, so...LOL).
And on that note, with a mug of Sleepytime Tea in me, I am going to pass out now. Goodnight, all!

Date: 2009-05-17 01:43 pm (UTC)Those effing Perry-ites tend to forget that the Dems in this state are growing stronger all the time, not every person in this state feels that way. there are many many of us who believe in our Pres, and many republicans, like my MIL, who believe that Obama is our president now, and we therefore must support and believe in him. She at least believes he is making things happen!
Believe me, Perry's statements have pissed off a huge amount of people who live here. It makes me violent. LOL.
So if that ever happened--which would be pretty damn tough to convince all the voters to do anything like that, I'd move to Nashville where my sister lives. I love this state for many reasons, it is my home, but not for the current political climate.
But things are changing, thank the moon and stars, things are changing!
Oh see what you did? You got me shaking my fist and stomping about. LOL.
Yeah, of course the plot could've been stronger--there wasn't enough of Nero, really, and it was more heart-string-pulling than clever, but it was fun. Really enjoyed it. :)

Date: 2009-05-17 02:00 pm (UTC)All I hear on this issue is how 30% or so of the people of Texas want to secede--allegedly--and how the Repuglicans are split on the issue. I haven't heard if there is anger in the state or not. Thank you for educating me--important since our governor would rather pay down debt than pay teachers and policemen.
I'm not saying I didn't enjoy "Star Trek." I don't know, maybe my expectations were a little too high, given J. J. Abrams' name and how much I like "Fringe."

Date: 2009-05-17 02:17 pm (UTC)The thing about Texas is we are a HUGE state, with ALOT of people--obviously. There are vast rural areas, and those tend to be more conservative...FW itself, while mostly republican, was very interesting during the last election. Prior to this one, the Bush-Kerry election actually, the outpouring in support of Bush was unreal. Now and then you would see a meek Kerry supporter, but there wasn't the visual message one would expect because there were Kerry voters, and supporters--I was one of them. Kel voted for Shrub. Hmm.
This election, what a difference! In certain neighborhoods you'd see more Cain than Obama, but the Obama supporters were out about it and proud about it and as a result, one would think everyone here voted for him except a small handful.
But I know FW--lived here all my life--and while the liberal, accepting attitude is growing...now I see people being openly gay and it is okay for example...FW is also the home of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southern Baptists tend to be quite the opposite of liberal, accepting, tolerant of others...Oh boy, that is another thing that gets me set off! Esp. given my personal beliefs.
The good news on that front though is I am seeing the younger kids--like my daughter who does consider herself a Christian--who have quite vocally championed against intolerance. "You don't get it, we just don't care." She didn't say that herself of course but that young woman spoke for alot of kids that day. At least the kids I am surrounded by thanks to her and Kelly.
So there is hope for Texas (and the US) and if that 30% is so unhappy and miserable about life in this country that they think ripping Texas away will work, I hope they enjoy their fantasy life. It will never happen. They can wallow in their misery forever as far as I'm concerned, or be like my MIL, pray for our President (which she does every day, btw) for him to lead us out of this ungodly (lol) mess that Shrub and his people put us in.
Love you Eric!

Date: 2009-05-17 06:32 pm (UTC)And I *loved* the Star Trek movie. I saw the one w/ the whales back in the 80s, but I've never seen anything else. M told me the short skirts were an homage to the original series. I thought she looked good in her skirt. The movie was cheesy in places, but it was supposed to be cheesy in places. And I left the theater w/ a big dopey grin, looking forward to the next one. (I also really like JJ Abrams' shows "Alias" and "Lost" and "Fringe" too.)
