Anyone jumping into the vat of boiling oil and committing 31 days to the madness? I'm going to join in on the local level...see if I can dig out some decent writerly types in this city I live in where no one knows my name...

What the heck, why not.

Anyone else?

You're braver than me! I can't commit. :P

Actually, that's one of the worse times of year for me in terms of having time to write - between work and holiday stuff, I never get much writing done.

Ohhh I can imagine. :(

This October, Nick will be at the Hub, and another weekend visiting his parents, and I can write at lunch every day now, so I could do this! I could! LOL. I've never finished a book under 8 months thereabouts, but who cares! I can try, like a crazy loon. :)

I think it's cool that you're going for it. I'm always impressed by NaNoWriters. It's such an enormous task!

You mean I don't control everything you do? DOMN! MUST. TRY. HARDER.

In all seriousness though, I wish you luck with your pursuit. It was such an out of character thing for me to do, to go to those meetings alone, and some of those people have left my life, and that's probably a good thing, but I'll never forget them and I'm really, really lucky to have the ones that are left.

If I do it this year, I don't even know that I'll go to meetings. I'm trying to work on something so focused, something that I don't really want to talk about right now outside of my group of friends and supporters, that I'm not sure the group events would be helpful. (Although, steampunk is in these days, so it might behoove me to get there a few times to check out any possible competition.)

I haven't even looked for the local stuff yet--lol I went to one two-three years ago and there were possibly decent people there, probably Religious Epic types too. Ha.

I still know nothing much about steampunk and as such, have decided just to wait for yours to read and champion. I am patient. But demanding!

HEH!

You can be our mascot. I feel like I should buy you a halo. And a whip. ♥

I DO NOT TALK TO THE RELIGIOUS CRAZIES. I only get myself into trouble that way.

I'm doing NaNo again this year. I've done it every year since 2006, and I even know what I'm going to write. I already sent a rough proposal to my publisher about it.

Let's see ... Ambergrin's not done. Christmas Ghosts is not done (although it "won" NaNo last year). I need to advertise The Firflake and get the website going.

Of course I'm going to do NaNo.

No way I'm going to do NaNo - November is one of my busiest months. I'm over the 100,000 words mark, thanks to my personal H/D NaNo in August *g*, and I will be happy to add a few more till the year is over. But I guess I won't reach the 200,000 mark of GYWO. If I could have made a smaller pledge, I'd done that, too. Because after the next three fest contributions, I will have to focus on the aikido book, and that won't add as much to my word count.

But then, it's not all about the number of words. It's also how we use them.

I always get a slight urge to have a go at NaNo around this time of year when numerous online friends start burbling happily about their projects and the social aspects, but it's really not a good time of year workwise. Actually, it's a more basic problem than that. Though I have occasionally produced bursts of up to 2500 words, I can't maintain an average of 1667 for a month. Instead, I'm going to sign up for another round of [livejournal.com profile] novel_in_90 and see if I can finish the novel about the war in Baradel by mid-December.

But good luck! I know NaNo really works for some people. My friend [livejournal.com profile] birdsedge revised and extended her NaNo project and is now submitting it to publishers.

I have to echo [livejournal.com profile] heleninwales

NaNoWriMo is not a good fit for me. I tend to ride along on the wave for a few days and get some words down, and stop before it becomes a chore.

Honestly, I'm trying to decide. The big projects I have on tap at the moment should be done by November, though I've got two OTHER big projects that I hope to start on then. Neither of them, though, is supposed to clock in at 50k. Plus, I have other things I need to get done...

Maybe?

I can't not do Nano! This year, however, I'm going to cheat a little and write a whole bunch of short stories.
Hanging out with local Nano people is how I met some of my best friends.

LOL Awesome. Hey I saw your picture...was on Absolute Write yesterday, bumming around and lurking cuz I was bored at work, and saw a post by Karen, went to writer's weekend, and there was a picture and you were in it!

That is my main reason for doing it this year, and I am cheating too, as I'm already workign on what I'll be doing. But I hope that will get it finished up. I don't care about 'winning' it, I really just want to meet some decent, open-minded, fun writerly types here. I KNOW THEY EXIST!!!!

Nothing's happening on the site yet, but it will soon, figure around Oct 1.

if i do it, it'll probably only be the mini-nano version. i like that better. my life is too full of drama and chaos to consider doing the full one. plus, i live in a small city. i feel like if i had people i could interact with, face to face, i might be more persuaded to do it but because i have no cheer leading squad then i'll stick to the mini. i had a lot of fun with it last year, should be good.

well i'm glad you remember because i don't! LOL was it really 25k? could have been. every year i bump up what my daily word count will be. i found a really great e-zine that published micro-fiction and was thinking about writing some stuff with that as a goal. or i suppose i could go back to writing holly. i still have huge gaps in that story that need fixing. AH! look what you've started! *no brain! bad! stop thinking!!*

I always start Nano, and never finish. Nick just groans, but then switches on the Supportive Boyfriend cloak and says Good for you, you can do it!

I really really want him to be able to say this year YAY YOU DID IT!!!

I am intrigued by your user pic. LOL!!!
