It sucks to write a big post and have it fall apart. A redo:

1. Cardiff and London: We have airplane tickets, train tickets, we have tickets to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert for TWO shows, and The Little Dog Laughed in London. Four nights in Cardiff, four in London. Walking along a certain beach...good times to come. Not near long enough but this is how our lives have been, are, and will be.

2. Exams: Nick is in the midst of his oral exams. We see each other in less than a month but he has to get through these during these next few weeks. So, it is hard to be all excited WHEE LESS THAN A MONTH! when he has all this to get through. But...I can't help it.

3. Stress: My dentist noted I am really stressed (and it is causing me teeth-jaw problems). She is right. This month has been a little much to deal with...taxes, social security nightmare, my son wrecking my car, my daughter getting her car stuck on a curb (srsly, and I lost it and cried, I seriously just.am.sick.of.this.crap), illnesses, dental stuff, other stuff, bills, worrying over friends and family and boyfriends and and and AHH! Always something! I clench my teeth while asleep AND during the day, but have been trying valiantly to relax, to breathe deep when I realize I am doing it and relax (like now), and to try to focus not on the worries but on the good stuff. (It also helps Nick that I do this--poor guy, I've had so much craziness come up this month I've tried not to wail about it, but damn...what a month!).

4. Work: Work is actually brilliant. Stressful yeah, but the good kind. Since December, I've been cramming my brain full of this: ArcGIS. Our ArcGIS is geared toward our work for railroads, and I am now specifically in charge of railroad crossings (new, changes, closed, bad data, messed-up ones, etc.). This has happened very quickly.

Before December I knew none of this, and now, because so much is happening so fast (got GIS training? we need people in Fort Worth and Topeka, KS--email me), the person in charge of it is being yanked and I am furiously working to get up to speed on not just ArcGIS but on all the databases and RIS and QC'ing (which is a nightmare--I don't know what the deal is, but the girl in Topeka who was working on this too? EVERY point is wrong, she didn't do everything or update the project database or or or omg, I am having to redo them all, basically). Damn. WTH! I have so so so much to learn yet, barely know a corner of what ArcGIS can do, but I know my corner damn well. I LOVE IT, too. Even though it eats my brain. I have no idea why but this stuff and I, we like each other.

The above is why I have disappeared from googlechat and twitter and lj during the days (and often the night). Emails I can handle.

Also on the horizon for the near future: Lidar

Saw my first example of point cloud data animation and saw a glimmer how we'll be able to gear that toward the rail. The days of my folding maps printed off of CADD are numbered. I love being in a company that is the ground-breaker in new technologies applied toward railroads.

If that doesn't excite you...then well I guess that is okay, it does me, like crazy. I WILL LEARN ALL ABOUT THIS and USE it! We'll be needing better computers though... LOL. Oh here you go...

DAMN I love my job. Srsly do.

5. Writing: I have joined writing groups! One meets on Tuesdays, and the other meets one Saturday a month and has several of the same Tuesday people. I've only been once so far but enjoyed it. I have more writerly thoughts for another post, but I like the people, am confident I will be able to relax and be myself, eventually. It is still hard, though, to be amongst others I don't know that well yet. I'll keep at it though, I swear. Already my mind is opening up to possibilities...but again, that is for another post.

6. Reading: I love my itouch. I finished The Day of the Triffids this week and am sad it is done. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill for the great suggestion. I loved it. I need to pack another killer-read onto it for the trip. I have an old favorite, The Watchers by Dean Koontz, alot of freebie classics (Dracula!), Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Shutter Island which still has not slayed me, sigh, but am searching for another super-killer book to get.

7. Battlestar Galactica: Am hooked.

I guess that is it for now. I, in no way, said what I started out to say, which was something along the lines of how important it is to not stress about life and to not let it eat you up, how cutting back in areas of life so other areas of life can flourish is a good thing, how trusting oneself to learn new things can bring a different(and maybe unexpected) kind of happiness, how taking the time to relax and enjoy the quiet moments can open up unexpected thoughts. Good thoughts. Powerful thoughts, thoughts that are sorting themselves out about alot of things. I meant to say all those things, but didn't.

Or did I?
