Hi kids, for those of you on my flist who are into Torchwood, I am excited to post that Episode 5 of the Virtual Season project is up! Written by [livejournal.com profile] amand_r and [livejournal.com profile] cruentum, I had the honor of watching this story unfold over the last several months and also watch how this writing team performs their magic. Hard work, compromise, and dedication, and a fascinating mesh of styles has brought about splendid results. They are good. Very good. Hey guys--I had the honor and privilege and absolute pleasure to beta a wonderful fic written by [livejournal.com profile] fishponies, also known as [livejournal.com profile] amand_r and her little bro (and my b/f) [livejournal.com profile] cruentum. This is an rps fic, based on Nick's favorite man John Barrownman, his partner Scott Gill, GDL and his lovely partner Gemma.

I don't often get the chance to beta my own SO's work. I usually am his first reader, true, and always am there to watch his writings evolve from initial creation to final presentation (which is a very interesting process--I love experiencing how someone else creates a fic), but beta? For credit and everything? Nah, that's not usually what he needs from me.

I've had the pleasure of being the beta for a Mandr fic once before (or twice? once I think! I can't remember--once for sure!). I love Mandr's stories simply because they come from her brain, and her creativity and love for writing is just wonderful to see and be a part of. I don't care what it is--who it is about, what fandom, doesn't matter to me. I just plain love her writing.

But...this wasn't just a Nick fic this time, and not just a Mandr fic this time. This was a fic written by them both, together, in tandem, side-by-side (and alot of other tricky things they evolved into doing in order to write this story).

Each writer brought their unique talents to the creative table (or, maybe rather, to Googledocs). They are good, very good at what they do and this fic showcases that. I hope you'll bop over there and read Closed Set, and see for yourself what a real treat it can be when a fic is written by a collaboration that works.

Don't you love my new user pic? That is from my Grimmas Card from [livejournal.com profile] amand_r. I just HAD to make him into an icon. I ADORE HIM SO! I ADORE HER SO! He makes me laugh! Poor guy, no one will kiss him. Awww...

Not made by [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords but instead by the big honcho at BNSF's wife who makes cupcakes for fun, this is what greeted me today when I got to work:



OMG they are amazing. I am SURE Blue's are better though! And these aren't vegan. But damn, wow, whoa.

Tonight, we get the tree. Finally.

At work, about to dive into my project--today I get to go back to the beginning of all my research and using ArcGIS, my new toy, figure out a bunch of stuff I couldn't before. I ended up figuring out how to utilize it for my project by cornering four different people. Honestly guys, that was annoying. I start formal training in January. This is good.

I got a very small raise, but a nice Christmas bonus last week.

Not done with [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood yet, but I finally told Alba IT WILL BE WEDNESDAY AT THE LATEST! And that should work out great. Of course, this means I still haven't started my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic, but I have it planned out in my head. There will be a Big Writing Frenzy over the next few days. [livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill I hope you remember that you said you'd love to beta! I have it in email! It is true! LOL.

Got my [livejournal.com profile] twsecretsanta assignment. LOL. I am very pleased with who I have. It'll be awesome, and that's what I will work on AFTER yuletide is done. I'm home for the four-day holiday, with no plans except the 25th, so I'll be having a blast with that then. Whee! I kinda know what I am doing too. This will be my 2nd Torchwood fic. Anyone remember how I said I wouldn't write another after [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood was done? I lied.

But then, January 1, I turn back to my ms for Loose-Id. I started it exactly a year ago from then, and only have 45k on it. That is sad, and unacceptable. It needs to get done, turned in, and then on to the next one for Loose-Id, the horrorish one, Wolfhunter. Am honestly not sure it is completely right for Loose-Id. Will talk about premise with my editor, as the main character is female, and though there is a m/m thread to it, it is not the main thread. Yes, that means, HETEROFIC! OMG! ME? LOL. I realize that m/m sells better, but I love this book (literally been with me, this idea, for 8 years or so) and it is time to write it. Maybe it won't be right for Loose-Id, maybe it falls more into (gasp, eek) Urban Fantasy, I don't know. I just know I want to write it, now. It is time.

Guess I better get to work, huh.
