Tomorrow finishes up my initial two weeks at the law firm, filling in for someone who is dealing with cancer. I'll be back there to jump in when she starts radiation, unless I find something ahead of time. I love the law firm, but omg that is the most boring desk EVER.

I am continually caught up, despite having three lawyers to 'care' for. I really like one of them especially--I would work for him full-time! He cracks me up, a little gnome of a man who was in law school when I was in elementary school. He is funny and has expressed impatience with his current legal secretary's inability to handle Word (they use Wordperfect and Word there, but the older secretaries favor Wordperfect which is more along the lines of Word 2003). I've fixed a few things for him because I do know Word well, and he is ecstatic--tomorrow, he will write a personal letter and, whee, I will print it out on small stationery, and print off envelopes. LOL. Such excitement! The other two attorneys--one is in securities and such, and is very easy to deal with, and the third, an associate, does all his own work.

That is, I can see, the wave of the future...I think the days of new attorneys dictating everything rather than writing it all out themselves is near-over. Legal secretaries do other things now, but at this desk? Not enough. OMG yawn. LOL.

Unless I find another job in the meantime, in four weeks when she begins radiation, I will go back and fill in again. It'll be unpredictable though--depends on how she handles the radiation. :*(

But! Happily thanks to the quiet this week, I had printed my ms out at home and brought parts of it up every day, and over the last four days during the minutes/hours I had nothing (eek!) to do, I worked on it. Finished up the last of the first pass tonight! YAY!

Gameplan--Saturday, get up, get ready and head for Panera, which is bright and roomy and has fooods, and big tables. It is the go-to place for TCU students to study, but they are out now so there should be no problem in finding a good spot.

Not much else going on. Kid graduated last weekend, did family stuff all weekend. Worked on ms, brushed the dogs a lot (coat blowing season). Once this ms is turned in, I'll be attacking my big bang project full-on, and cannot WAIT to just have some fun with writing first draft stuff again.

I also need to get back into the swing of the fantasy, and wrap up the planning stages. I just want to get started writing the damn thing, you know? I would like to have a good start before school starts in the fall. ARGH.

And that is all I know for now.
SIGH: Piper passed away this morning--they got the call at 3:30 a.m. that her tumor had ruptured. They were able to say goodbye, thankfully, but the sweet piperkins is gone now. Thanks to all who reached out to Blue--quite a few did! She has a post on her lj re: the donation money, and what would be best at this point. Thanks everyone, so very awesome.

One of the most special people I know, Blue aka [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords, is in urgent need of some help. Her beloved pupster Piper, a darling Beagle girl, is very sick, and is currently in the puppy hospital. The doctors have figured out what is wrong, thank goodness, but she needs surgery and Blue and her roommate M are finding that it costs more than they have available right now.

Thankfully once they get Piper's fever down and stabilized, there should be some time before they have to do the surgery. The doctors believe that she can be helped, so that is awesome. Blue is a fabulous cook, especially of cupcakes :), and is offering her wonderful baked goods to raise funds to help her puppy. See here for details: Help Piper.

I know too well (being on unemployment myself) how tough times are, but every little bit would so help. Thank you! Hope you can help, and pass the word, too, if you can.

And here are some of my fav pics of Piper:

So, I am still plugging away at the Nano. Today was the best day I'd had yet--just about 5k words (give or take, as some tweaking was kinda hard to judge).

These are my stats so far:

If you would like to read my entries, just leave a comment here and I'll more than likely be happy to friend you back. Unless of course you are one of those Russian bots. [livejournal.com profile] green_knight suggested I leave a few posts open to show whoever what I'm like, so I chose a few from my trip to Wales. Not that I have strangers popping by here wondering who [livejournal.com profile] paragraphs is, but you never know. :)

What Is Your Battle Cry?

Zang! Who is that, rampaging along the freeway! It is Paragraphs, hands clutching a reflective halberd! She screams ominously:

"Blood and souls for my dark lord! I hereby snap and go berzerk!"

Everyone who knows me knows I wanted (yes, past tense) some of [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords's Famous Blue Cupcakes. Red Velvet, vegan, lovingly hand-crafted, oh yeah. She auctioned them on the auction for Haiti and I was outbid gloriously by several people. I cried into my hanky, then decided to make an offer myself for dog biscuits, which happily went for a very-generous $30.00. They will soon be winging their way to the winner.

Just a little while ago, Tony, the mail guy, brought me a box. I said, "What is that? I didn't order anything." Wracked my brain--did I do some late-night online shopping I'd forgotten about? Kick self if I had as I am watching every dime at the moment (house tax time, bah). Then he said, "It's from DC!"

"BLUE!" I screamed, and sure enough, to my excited and yeah, misty-eyes, it was indeed from her.

He waited to see what it was (smart man, turns out) though I suspected and, heart racing madly, with 'oh well, who cares about the diet today' going through my mind, I opened the box and sure enough! These gorgeous delicious hand-made beautiful cupcakes were tucked inside, lovingly wrapped in brown wax paper. That's some fancy wax paper there.

Taken with camera phone, so apologies for that.

To top it all off, it appears some wonderful, generous, kind and awesome soul named Anonymous donated to Haiti with the request these go to me. That was the kindest, sweetest thing in the world to do, and as I ate mine, my heart went out to all the Haitians who, to hold such a thing now in their hands, would be the most miraculous thing in the world. I am very fortunate to have what I do, to have friends like Blue, like you, Anonymous, and everyone here. I truly am. Thank you, so very much.

(I shared the cupcakes with the boys--they all went for the chocolate peanut butter ones, leaving the red velvets for me. Whee! Two of the peanut butter ones left that I will give to my son, and there are two little mystery ones, too.)

Have made significant progress on my manuscript rewrite this weekend. Finally! Am starting to feel some hope, solid hope, that this story is going to work.

Watched Caprica, have been marathoning BSG inbetween working on ms and reading and commenting on fics over yonder in [livejournal.com profile] 51stcenturyfox's lj, and of course talking with Nick.

Also talked to [livejournal.com profile] duikermeisie on the phone today for the first time! Kept missing her--okay honestly I didn't know who was calling so I ignored her there for awhile, then she always called when I was on the phone with Nick. Finally she caught me at a good time, cooking my dinner, NOT on the phone with Nick. Grin. Instant rapport! I am positive we've talked on the phone before as it was a very easy conversation (and I do hate talking on the phone...except to Nick!). Hopefully we'll catch the air waves again real soon. She wants me to bring the pups down for adventuring. The thought of travel with two huskies alone makes me a wee bit nervous...they are demanding dogs to handle alone (visions of disasters at pit stops, oy). So maybe one only. But which one? Maddox, or Shelby. Maddox or Shelby MADDOX OR SHELBY OH NO!!!

Okay time for next episode of BSG. I remember the original series from when I was a little kid...this is a real trip of course because nothing like it. Needless to say.

I'll be making dog biscuits sometime this week...yes I should've this weekend, but my brain was not functioning well and had so much to do around the house (as usual).

Discovered an amazingly delicious new tea thanks to my sister: Bigelow's Vanilla Caramel black tea. Can we just say BETTER THAN CUPCAKES? Yes!

I still want cupcakes.

That is all.
